You make good points, and Im sure the club will blood the lads they can when they can. Point is though we are still in offseason and an experienced (although unpopular) prop is available, why would you not pick him up and have an insurance policy against gambling everything on a few youngsters making it? They can still be blooded (and will be) but now its through choice not nessesity.
Im not a fan of this signing, and I dont like where the club is at the moment, but the negative reaction has been way OTT IMHO, and I can see why the club did it, even if I might not agree with it.

| All this talk about 'the Burgess' money...
Before you can buy something you need someone prepared to sell.
From the signing of Sculthorpe I'd guess that there isn't anyone out there prepared to sell the sort of player the Bulls would actually spend transfer money on.

Chev walker and JJB made their debuts in 99, they must have been 16/17 at the time.
At the turn of the millenium leeds had to play a massive amount of youngsters all at once because of injuries. I remember in 2001 we were playing hull at home, we had a mediocre team, our coach was about to be sacked, and we had loads of injuries.
This little midget came on, i'd never seen a player so small and straight away he jinked through the defence and sped round the fullback to score a try and then he floated over a touchlline coversion - no problem, i remember thinking ''who the f*ck is this kid?''
The point is these were hardly ideal conditions or environment for youngsters to come into, but they either sink or swim, if they're good enough they'll always swim.
'"
I don't think McNamara has any issues with blooding the youngsters. In fact I know he has high hopes for Kopzcak in 2010 and I am sure Crossley will get some games if he can get himself ready during pre season. But we're not talking about an injury crisis at the club, we are short on numbers for a 25 man squad. You cannot expect a Reserve grade Prop to take on regular 1st team duties when he has barely featured in the 1st team in his career. Our Props for next year before this signing were Lynch, Scruton, Kopzcak and then possibly Glen Hall.
We were lacking size and experience.

yes, fair enough, he was, my bad. But Im just a bit baffled why people seem to assume world class players are always available for the right price at the right time and would want to come to a club that is clearly struggling at the moment and in the middle of a (rather long winded) rebuilding?
I think the signing left is Walker, and [iif [/ihe reproduces what he is capable of then he will improve our backs from last year.

Just a question.
I come across a lot of 'Sky TV Bulls' fans who are quite vocal about who we should be signing. Whilst our crowds continue to dwindle we can look forward to far worse than Danny Sculthrope.

There's a reason for dwindling crowds.
the primary one is Steve McNamara.

That is the reason. Whether people admit it or not. People can bleat on about "I'm not going because they got rid of Noble" or "I'm not going because McNamara is rubbish", but what it boils down to is "we're not winning now, so I don't like it".
Essentially the "McNamara is rubbish" excuse is just another way of saying "While McNamara is here, we don't win".
The only other small reason is economy and some people simply can't afford it.
Anyone who says other than money or glory though is kidding themselves.
As far as I go, while I can afford it, I go to the games. Regardless of results, regardless of what bloody division we're in, regardless of who's playing for us. I'm a supporter of the club, not just my favourite player who I have a bit of a man-crush on.

We get the supporters back by winning.
Every club and fan likes to deny it, but there is no doubting that success relates to attendances. Every club has it's loyal following who will go no matter what, but every club also has it's glory supporters that don't bother if they are losing.
It's the same with every club and every sport.
But it's a vicious cycle. People don't turn up, so attendances are down and money is down, which means you have to sign poorer players. Poorer players mean less success and less people turning up. Very difficult to climb out of.

Good question. But do we splash the cash and gamble on our future stability? There are barely any good quality players off contract, so who do we sign?

I was just using the term "world Class" to highlight the point (but people have used that about the type of player we should be after). We've been shopping on a budget. And FWIW if he plays to his potential Walker is a quality player.... but I do wonder how big that [iif [/iis.

We have had this debate and we'll have it again probably but I have no intention of getting into it again now. Just because I don't watch them week in week out anymore doesn't mean I'm not a supporter.
The club is in the ter, it's run horrendously and is coached by an absolute moron, and now, to top it all off, he replaces the one bright spark we had left with an over the hill never was with a less than stellar injury and disciplinary record. and then they all sit there and wonder why no one in Bradford wants to watch that circus every other week?
if anyone needs me I'll be at Valley Parade, which despite being 4th tier, minutes away from liquidation a few years ago, over a £million pound in overheads to find every year before they can even think about profit is much better run, and in a much more stable position than the Bulls could dream of. poor form.
