Raiders sign Orford
BY CHRIS DUTTON, RUGBY LEAGUE
10 Jan, 2011 08:01 AM
The Canberra Raiders' 2011 premiership hopes will be given a massive boost when the club announces the signing of Matt Orford this morning.
After almost four months of negotiations, Orford has finally secured a release from English Super League club Bradford and is free to return to the NRL this year.
He is expected to start training with the rest of the Canberra squad tomorrow.
The Raiders were desperate to sign an experienced playmaker to help them become a premiership threat this year.
The need for Orford became even more of a priority when Terry Campese tore his anterior cruciate ligament in the Raiders' semi-final loss to the Wests Tigers last September.
Orford will take over the chief playmaking duties for most of 2011 with halfback Josh McCrone to join him.
Campese is expected to return to the field halfway through the season, but he will not be at his best until the end of the year.
Orford captained Manly to a premiership in 2008.
He has played 239 games in the NRL with the Northern Eagles, the Melbourne Storm and Manly.

| I personally would love to see Matt come back to Odsal one day when there is a large attendance. Get him out at half time to address the crowd, then let us all throw rotten fruit at him.
Even better if we could get George Mimis instead/aswell.

Rotten fruit? I don't know why everyones suddenly being so kind at him, I'd buying a large collection of throwing knives and making sure I get right to the front of the terrace.

I was trying to use something that wouldn't get us all thrown in jail
If the entire crowd is throwing knives though, the front of the crowd is the last place I'd want to be!

Good point.
I hope he has a truly terrible time for Canberra anyway.

| To be honest, when history comes to be written I suspect we will find that Sack of Rat Droppings Mimis is (again) seen to be the real villain of the piece.
I am sure that scumbag will receive out of life everything he deserves.
And the more unpleasant, the better.

| "On injury leave from his English club, Matt Orford was at Brookvale Oval in mid-2010 when the Raiders stole a surprise win over Manly that turned around their season.
Watching on the sidelines, the Dally M-winning halfback decided there and then to turn his back on the Super League and make a return to Australia for good."
And this, boys and girls, is finally the admission of what a lying little toerag that scumbag actually is. There in black and white is the confirmation of what we had all come to realise months ago - that he never had any intention of coming back.
""The first game I went to (when I was in Australia) was Manly-Canberra," the former Sea Eagle said.
"Obviously to sort of catch up with old (Manly teammates), but as soon as I saw that game, I knew straight away what I wanted to do.
"I wanted to come back to the NRL.""
He can go rot, as far as I am concerned.

| Is it just me or do those oz press reports seem a bit garbled. They start off saying orford has got a release from bradford and has signed for canberra. Then when they get into detail it changes to he hopes to finalise a release in next couple of days and canberra are hopeful of signing him by end of week. Maybe a little further to go with this sorry saga yet- Although can't see it dragging on more than another day or two now.

| Well he has been removed from the Squad List on the Bulls site, but I doubt that we will hear anything official till the paperwork properly is signed and release terms agreed, feeding the press in Oz is just a tactical pressure ploy by madam mimmis.
I have also put a reply on the Canberra Times, but made sure the emotive bit left out

Well, if he shafts you over the way he has done with us, you're more than welcome to come back on here and tell us we're not being very nice. But he deserves all the bad luck that comes his way. Anyway, after yesterday, if he can stay fit and play like that, the annoyance of Orford going is eased beautifully by Herbert.

Whilst I don't particularly wish Orford any personal success, I would love for Canberra to win the NRL next year (and with the Orford signing I think you have a very good chance).
I don't have any problem with the way that Canberra has conducted itself throughout this (at least publicly) but the reason I want them to win is so that you come over here for the WCC challenge.
I'm sure we'd all love to give Orford a warm welcome - even if it's unlikely to be against us.

Mmm. Not our fault they've signed a two-faced toerag though is it? I hope his form turns to sh?t, and he spends the next 2 years on the bench in the Toyota Cup, before being released as surplus to requirements.
And I hope he gets piles.

I'll wait until Bradford say so I reckon, looks all but done, but I need to hear it from our end first...we've had enough of dodgy press briefing from down under on this one.
