| I thought our last quota spot was used by orford?? but obviously not according to this........................
Quote THE manager of former Titans winger Chris Walker is adamant his client is still England-bound despite the Bradford Bulls filling their overseas player quota by signing Manly halfback Matt Orford.'"

Can't say I'm surprised - the club is a complete farce at times. Surely they should of thought about this.
How about (to get around it), we sign him anyway for three years, loan him out to Crusaders for a year and then he can come back to us in a years time when Menzies retires and Nero comes off the quota?
Win, win all around (apart for Walker maybe)?

| Well, sh*t a brick if it turns out they've signed a contract with Walker.
Stupidity on an effing monumental scale if that's the case. They'd have to buy him out would they not?

| Wouldn't the agent say 'We have a signed contract' if one existed?
My guess is that there was an understanding but nothing binding. Could the agent be making a noise to keep his client happy, while knowing that there is little chance of anything actually happening?

Sounds like they never actually signed him. Silly Mr Walker, that's why you need to sign a contract, it not only protects the club, it protects you.

| Suggest keep powder dry on this until we hear both sides, and the club's take? So far we only have Walker's side as reported in the notoriously sensational Oz media.
But its one hell of a big barrel of powder waiting to go off if go off it transpires that Walker's version of events wins out.

By the way, for anyone who's unsure why he had the nickname of "Walkout":
www.smh.com.au/articles/2003/09/ ... m=storyrhs
Quote Yet even some of Walker's teammates find it hard to accept his decision to walk out mid-season on wooden-spooners South Sydney and join the defending titleholders.'"
If (and it's a big [i[uIF[/u[/i) Walker ends up playing next season (or 2011 etc) as a Bull, I will support him because he's a Bull, but only for that reason. It was a despicable action, and to me demonstrates his contempt for the sanctity of a contract. Would give me a tremendous amount of satisfaction to see him get a decent serve of Karma.

| If there is a signed on both sides contract then were in trouble , but im guessing that it might of been signed on our side and not on theres and until its signed on both sides , then either party can back out. Guess we need some clarification from Mr Hood, but as only a few weeks ago he said that there was no deal with walker, im not expecting much.

| Under British employment law until the contract is signed by both parties you have no grounds for greivance. I once resigned from my job after accepting a position at another company two weeks into my notice period of four weeks I was told that the new position was no longer available and that was that. Wasted time at Citizens Advice and had to go crawling back to my then current employer who luckily hadn't filled the position. I was actually there for another 18 months but it wasn;t nice. Similarly we've offered people jobs and found out a week before they are due to start that they've decided not to take the job. Not only that if he hasn't signed a contract he hasn't got a sponsor and can't get a visa can he?
Either the Bulls have been very stupid and will end up with Rob Burrow's dad sniffing at their crotch like Cas or Nero's leaving or Walker's agent has fouled up and is trying to cover his back.

| I think they should just keep quiet and resolve this in an adult way.
As Harry Hill would say, there's only one proper way to sort it out.
FIGHT!!!

Suspect if his argument DID win out (pray that it does not...) then his agent will more likely seek damages for breach of contract than to enforce specific performance of the contract. The wording in the report sort of suggests that "... until Chris Walker's situation is resolved I can't see how they can sign Matt Orford..." and anyway, would you want to play for a club who did not ultimately want you?
But lets hope there is no contract and this goes no further.
the wording of the report also SUGGESTS he actually signed a contract with us in AUGUST - although that might be clever wording, and he might have rejected a Titans contract in August "... to sign for Bradford" rather than "... and signed for Bradford".
But its all speculation right now.

| Now I understand what Macca meant when he said he had a few balls in the air. Sounds like the balls were multiple contracts being sent to Australasia. Now I just hope we avoid a big balls-up!

| From the other thread on Walker...
Quote
But Walker's manager Chris Orr said he last spoke to the club on Friday and was assured the contracts of both Walker and another of his clients, former Sharks fullback Brett Kearney, were secure. '"
The wording is strange "contracts... were secure" - I can't make my mind up if that means that there is a contract or the offer of a contract?
Of course, it may be that someone has a view on the likelihood of Walker getting a visa?

When I read this yesterday I had the sneaking feeling that it might lead to more contract related trouble. Have Bradford learnt anything from the Harris saga? It looks like the Bulls are desperate to sign 'marquee' players, presumably to draw in the punter as well as improve the quality on the field. That said I'd be surprised if this amounts to anything more than a storm in a teacup.
