| I have read on another thread we have been linked with luke Burgess as he is out of contract at leeds and so far not signed a new one as anyone got any information on this would be good to have the Burgess 4 all playing in one team and also any other information on players coming in for 2009.

As far as I am aware he has resigned for Leeds.
TBH, I a puzzled at some of the glowing praise Luke Burgess is getting on here recently. Had he not had the name "Burgess" I don't think anyone would really give a gnats' chuff about him.

Burgess and Scruton have not resigned yet at Leeds last I heard unless anyone knows better? Any of our semi resident Leeds posters know for sure?

| I belive Leeds can only afford to sign one out of Burgess and Scruton. I would sign Luke Burgess think he is a really good forward never takes a step back and he quality at offloading.
Our main priorty has got to be backs we need a good winger and a class centre or we will struggle next season.

I think either Burgess or Scruton would be decent signings, I'd go for Scruton before Burgess though if I had to choose. And I agree about a class outside back, but if Deacon starts to struggle with reoccuring injuries, and Harris does go to Celtic, we might need more cover in the halves as well.

| I rate Luke Burgess. He may be a bit slow on his feet in defence but he's a big lad who gets over the advantage line and has good offload. He's a better option than Chris Feather and has time on his side.
Of the two good judges at Leeds currently rate Scruton more highly than Burgess. I'd take either at the Bulls

| Will be really ed off if we go and sign Rooney, he's not the type of player we need in my opinion. I'm not on the 'get Macca out' bandwagon but this off season could go a long way towards deciding how long he stays. If we have to go through another off season watch Bradford signing average players while other clubs recruit will I think his time maybe up. I can understand Rooney as a temporary signing if Deacon is out for the rest of the season and we can sign him immediately but having Rooney and Jeffries here is a silly option. We need to stop signing players from clubs like Wakefield before we end up in the bottom half with Wakefield.

If I can clarify. I think that Luke Burgess is a decent player, but I also think that because he is Sam's brother, people are putting him on a similar lofty pedestal that they are putting Sam on.

| Burgess hasn't re-signed yet for Leeds, although it was rumoured to have been a done deal a few weeks back.
If Rooney signs I'd like to be credited with being the first to post that rumour on here Bradford really will be turning into Wakefield of 2004 if this continues. He's OK going forward but his defence, like Briers, is appalling.
I'm surprised Sid Domic hasn't been mentioned yet - a decent centre, used to play for Wakefield in 2004, and into his 30s

Jeffries has been easily our best half-back this season and Rooney is certainly no worse than him. Both are decidedly more creative, speedy & competent than the donkeys who currently wear 6 & 7.

| So we've re-signed Burgess, for some reason given Platt a new 3 year deal, given Halley a 1 year deal, signed Menzies who will be 35 when he gets here and we may have signed Rooney from Wakefield. Well the season tickets will be going on sale shortly for next season and I'm sure Macca and all will be telling us what an improvement the new squad will be on last years. Building for the future etc, etc. Well I'm sure the fans will be knocking down the doors to buy next years tickets.
I actually dread to pick the Telegraph up in fear of what I'm gonna read next. How many players are out injured now? Morrison, Tupou, Burgess, Deacon and Nero out, not to mention the ever present Feather on the sick list. I think we need to look at what we are doing on the training paddock and next year actually rotate the squad before we get injuries. Fitness and conditioning must be looked at as we can't live with the better teams over 60 mins never mind 80 mins.

I am stunned that it has taken so many people so long to make this point (and I am not suggesting that you are one of them). I (and others) have raised concerns about our fitness for a long while yet it is still an issue that has not been rectified.

| Rooney may be being envisaged as the replacement for Harris. Whilst this may represent an improvement in some respects it's hardly going to sell many season tickets and has been said already his defence isn't the best. If we do sign him we'll have the old Wakey pairing which hardly set many hearts racing did it?
Having said that any cash that is available should be used to sign some exciting backs as we are very much lacking in this area. Gawd knows who is available but if Evans goes to Cas as rumoured we will have Sykes, Nero and Crookes as centres next year with part timer Johnson filling in. That's not going to frigthen many teams.
While I would welcome the signings of Scruton or Burgess (especially with Vagana nearing retirement and Feather being unlucky with injury) the backs are the main area of weakness in the team.
On the injury front I'm not sure what the club can do what it isn't already doing. It's easy to point the finger and be critical of training methods but I'd suggest that most of us on here have very little knowledge of how injuries have been sustained.
On the fitness front it is obvious that our squad is less dynamic and athletic than the teams above us. McNamara often goes on about his players as being "great athletes" but they are often shown to be inferior in crucial areas. This is most noticeable in our inability to slow down the PTB without giving a penalty away against better sides in defence and in attack we struggle to get a quick PTB because our attacking players are dominated in the collision. While these failings are less obvious when we play mid table or lower sides they are glaringly obvious against the likes of Leeds and Saints.
Alas I don't see great changes to the present circumstances until we start bringing better players through and manage to recruit some decent ones. Let's hope we do sign some quality before the start of 2009 or I can see attendances dropping off even more.

| Bryn Hargreaves looks like he may be available next year as well.
What a coup if the Bulls could sign Hargreaves, Scruton and Burgess - a future awesome foursome alongside Sam/Lynch?
