| More importantly, will some more season ticket holders actually come to the game? The 3-400 away fans at York saw a cracking game and result.

| Squad announced:
Burton, Butler, Crossley, Dawson Jones, England, R,Evans, Flanagan, DFJ, Gannon, Gill, Green, Hallas, Hookem (Loan), Kibula, Lawford, Miller, Murphy, Walker, Scurr, Wallace.
I'll be interesting to see who figures in the halfbacks again with this kid Hookem coming over from Hull. Don't remember him from the pre season game. Lawford ought to start again.

Hookem in for Doyley on the bench. Bring him on at 9 or in to the halves and Hallas to 9 when GFS needs a breather.
Definitely an arguement as to giving Macus Green some game time this week with it 'only' being Whitehaven. The last 3 games are all tough and seem a bit much to throw in a young prop forward. Possibly swap him for Walker this week.

| I was really impressed to see Bradford get a result, seemingly out of nowhere, at York this week.
Then I saw York's result today.....

[listThat was a really really boring game between two sides who are the definition of "meh".
I forgot the beer glasses could be returned so left them on the terrace.
We probably just relegated Dewsbury.[/list:u

| Chalk and cheese. From the performance at York away to that today. I know we had hallas and Lawford in the halves etc but you could tell we didn’t want it from mid way through the first half.
Haven fans panicking and calling for a drop goal. No need at all as we could have played until midnight and not scored.
I seem to recall one nice bit of play in the second half when we put it through hands on the short side and opened them up a bit but the scramble defence saw Millar forced into touch. Other than that the rugby on display was very poor from two very poor teams.
Fair play to the haven fans travelling down for that. A real shame it’s probably confirmed Dewsbury as down too if only to save my car some miles on the clock.
Fast forward 2023

Aaahh, that's what it was, Bongser ran out of fingers and toes and those same appedages of his close friends - Bongser does not have many of the latter.
To hark back to something Pumpety Pump posted a few months ago; today LSV was truly like Disneyland.
Sorry you got the other D! (Genuinely)

| Wasted around £50 on that abysmal performance.
We need massive changes top to bottom, I am sick of saying that though..
Lawford is a good kid, who could be a real asset in years to come.
The coach appointment is now blatantly obvious it was the wrong one.
Keighley are seriously gunning for us now.

| Very disappointing result and performance. On the plus side young Lawford is a decent prospect (think he made more yards than anyone else and could've had two breakaway tries) Murphy gave his all and for the most part there was plenty of effort (with some exceptions from the usual suspects).
The most disappointing factor was the lack of any creativity in attack. I know we're without our halfbacks and one of our regular dummy halves but it was clear within the first few minutes that we hadn't got any idea how to break down their defence. We had plenty of possession on their line but the only tactic was to barge over which didn't work. Surely we could've come up with some smarter plays around dummy half? Dunning must have known our limitations in attack yet there were no run-arounds or switch plays near the ruck area at all. It was utterly predictable.
Whitehaven grew in confidence as the game went on when it was clear we were easy to defend against. Their first try came as a result of our tiredness in the middle of the field (inexcusable given how much possession we'd had up to that point). Fitness is still an issue for some of our middle forwards.
Whitehaven also managed to force more repeat sets due to their more intelligent play on the last tackle. This was in contrast to our options of handing it over on the 6th or kicking dead or conceding a tap 20. It was v disappointing as they were a very limited team and lost their pack leader to injury. That lad from PNG was immense for them - can we sign him please? He was head and shoulders above any of our forwards.
Not sure where we go from here. Watching the likes of Crossley and Walker rolling around is utterly depressing. Can't see any reason to go back in a hurry and Fax will murder us next week. Bring on the end of the season.

| Reading the comments on this thread and others is most depressing.
Does anyone else get the feel we are going through the motions, ready to wind up and pack in?
Has the distinct feel of when you're working your notice.
I still keep an eye on the scores but haven't been to a game now for a while and can't say I'm feeling any excitement or motivation to do so.
It's so sad from the days of super rugby in a packed odsal to this....

With so many leaving at the end of the year I think you've hit the nail on the head Wigsy. Watching the recent videos about our 2005 season you see an unbelievable contrast in every way. Those players wanted to go out on a high note. Many of the current group seem to be less motivated. Dunning said the players "gave everything" but and they may have done but looking at some they could certainly give a lot more if they were fitter.
Some players do definitely care but yesterday it wasn't channelled properly. For example when we were chasing the game in the 2nd half we got a penalty on our own 30m line. Flanagan elected to take a tap rather than put the ball into touch. Why? We would've made much more ground if we'd taken the kick. In the first half Lawford gained 40m on a penalty with a great kick. Flanagan obviously wanted to speed up the tempo but he let his enthusiasm cloud his judgement.
In the post match interview there was some discussion about our disallowed tries from Mick. Maybe one was harsh but Dunning at least correctly said it wasn't the reason for the defeat. He did say the lack of cohesion was down to having Hallas, Lawford and Kear as playmakers. He also said the large field at York gives players margin for error whereas that's not the case at Odsal. He said we find it difficult at Odsal. I think that's the first time that's been acknowledged officially. Not that it seems to hinder the opposition as much. We apparently have a different gameplan for home games that needs us to be "absolutely meticulous" which also looks to be beyond the current group.
Dunning said Whitehaven are a "good team" but I'd say that their league position says otherwise.
The club have a herculean task to sell season tickets for next year. We need a huge clearout of players and a change in culture.

This has the ring of truth to it. I've been to a few home games this year, but its a chore, not the highlight of the week like it used to be (even for plenty of times after Super League) and I prefer away games to home games now. Odsal was never great, but it had its unique charm in the past, now the field size is an absolute disgrace (that under sizing surely cannot be allowed long term??), the stands and hoardings are covered in dirt, its just an unpleasant place to spend the afternoon now, embarrassing.
I'm not local, so the travel, costs and time just dont stack up any more at the moment. Restore a proper sized pitch and give me a sense of hope for the future with the team and investment from owners and I'll be back, but for now I'll stick to attending the odd away game closer to me and following the Odsal demise from a distance.

| We need some good signings to stimulate season ticket take up. Not sure if the budget will be enough for this to happen but with talk of two tens for the following year it could be s**t or bust.
