If he did go to Salford then that would be 4 HBs they have. Although I think we've burnt our bridges with the doc and he seems quite pally with the Wakefield chairman so can see one of their HBs going to Wakey later in year if Brierley did sign with Salford.

I don't reckon we've a chance of signing Brierley and we don't really seem to be going for marquee players at the moment.

I can't see for the life in me why Brierley would leave Leigh to sign for another club in our division.

That said, he's a fine player, and I'd have him like a shot. It's hard to imagine where he's going to finish up - does anyone know what Rowley's plans are?

Funnily enough, we once had a player who left, so he said, because the coach was given the heave-ho and that was 'Badback' who left for Saints when his "Dad", AKA Foxy, was sacked. It definitely wasn't in his contract though....

Similar thing happened when Foxy was given the heave ho in 1985 and the Jeffersaurus followed him to Headingley.

We don't know for sure if this clause even exists and Brierley's new destination (if there is one) may yet depend who Leigh bring in as the new coach.

One thing's for sure they didn't need all this upheaval and uncertainty on the eve of the season. I wish we were playing them next week.

He wouldn't. As someone said on Twitter last night, the only way we'd end up with him is if he signed for an SL team that couldn't fit him under the cap this year, so loaned him out. Still highly unlikely though.

He'll either stay put, go to Leeds, or sign for another SL team for a year until someone better can get him under the cap. My money's on Wakey.

Love it if it were true but highly unlikely, quite a few things would have to get sorted for that to happen, assuming none of the top rated clubs were interested.

I think it's less about interest at this stage than it is about cap space. Wakey would have space and he would likely go there for a year until a higher club can fit him in next season. Wakey also made plenty of noise about wanting to sign another half when Joe Keyes fell through. If Leeds hadn't signed Ferres, I expect he would be there this morning.

Rumour has it there's a "pre-contract" signed for him to go to Leeds in 2017 if he wants to take it up.

Can't disagree with any of this, the problem we have is that of money or more importantly the lack of it, we had a half back lined up but it was reliant on us moving a player on which has proved difficult, and there in lies the problem, jf what you are suggesting is true then the club buying Brierley would have have to pay most of his wages as I'm sure you'll agree he wont come cheap.

I think we'd have the cap space too but it's the ready cash that's the issue.

If he moves in 2016 I can see it taking some weeks to sort out at least while clubs look at their budgets.

How cheap he's prepared to be might well depend on how much he needs a job right now. As said above, most SL clubs, and others too, to be fair, will be 'sorted' by now so his options are likely to be limited - especially so if his leaving means there is a transfer fee to pay as well.

Maybe the case then. Would also marry with reports about Craig Hall.

If I'm honest, I actually expect to hear that Leigh have convinced him to stay after all, making the whole thing a bit of a non-story.

I'm not sure how relevant it is or whether it adds any substance to the debate, but last season at Salford when we played them in the middle 8s' we walked down behind Brierley and Rowley, I'm not suggesting for one minute that they were there for anything other than the game itself, my point being that they looked like they were quite happy with each others company and looked the best of mates which could maybe go some way towards the rumour being true, Rowley needs to come to Wakey and as the assistant coach and take over from Smithy at the end of the season, and if he wants bring his mate with him

Brierly going to any of the clubs Leigh will face in the middle 8s would be a terrible kick in the teeth for their fans. I doubt Brierly would do that. If I were him - as long as Rowley wasn't treated badly, I would stay at Leigh and help them get promotion if I had one year left before leaving. If it turns out that Rowley has been badly done to by that nice uncle Derrick then he may also walk.
I think Brierly is a decent player but not a play maker. A quick poacher but we need a good old fasioned scrum half not another Gaskell - unless Gaskell is due to leave in 9 month time.

that's how I feel,at the moment I have heard 2 totally different rumours about why Paul resigned, but that's all they are rumours,I believe and hope Ryan Brierley will stay at Leigh for this season at least and continue to do his best.Keep Smiling,Charlie.
