| Nonsense. Best side lost today and Mcnamara for once picked the right team to do the job IMO.
Would have liked to see Burrow on the field for longer though, and why the hell didn't Sinfield drill the ball into touch on England's last set?!! would have prob been game over. Other than that he played well.
Gutted

Erm how not? I was being generous in giving them third given as they may have lost out to Fiji in a 3rd and 4th place play off.
England had two tough games, and lost them both. Home wins against the might of Ireland, Fiji and France hardly constitutes a success now does it? Given that the players themselves went on record as saying that anything less than the final was failure I hardly see how you think it is not?
McNamara's remit would have been the WC Final at least. Given that only 2 out of 3 teams were ever gonna get there and they are the spare part, he failed. Simple.

That said, cracking game.

| Best England/GB performance for years, for 78mins.
A few England players looked to be over celebrating when we re-gained possession for the last time. The concentration seemed just a tad lacking from then on. The ball should have gone into touch on our last play and then we had the high tackle and the player running out of the line.
Magnificent performances from Sam and Graham.

| I can't argue with how we performed today. But Macca has had 4 years at this and has failed at it.

| Fantastic game. That finish was incredible but also heartbreaking. I feel it (the result) had a massive effect on the atmosphere for the Australia game.
My only question as regards to Steve Mac's strategy was why we only used 3 of our 4 subs?!

| Sinfield was outstanding up until he lost his composure with 1 minute to go. Why on earth didn't he drill the ball into touch instead of booting it to the winger? And the shooting out/poor attempt was just diabolical.
He undid all the great work he put in to set up 2 tries -_-

Ah ha, using all our subs bench is what they would have expected us to do. The man is a tactical genius.

| Thought Seinfeld had a great 78 minutes and should have drilled the ball to touch. Saying that had Burgess not gone high we would have won. Can't decide if Seinfeld should have come out of the line or not at the end. If he makes the tackle he is a hero. Thought Hall and Cudjoe were the weak links in what was a superb performance for 78 minutes.

| Why would he get sacked? True we failed to make the final but that was more to do with the team taking it's eye off the ball before the game was won. There's a decent team and they didn't play badly in any game but need to work on their composure

| Well speaking as an Englishman I'm disappointed that we've failed once again after coming so close. In what was effectively a 3 team competition and as host nation the minimum requirement for success was a spot in the final. So you have to say McNamara and the players failed to perform in this World Cup.
Speaking as a RL fan who has tickets for the Final, I think the final will be a better match up with NZ v Aus. However NZ will have to improve a considerable amount from yesterday to get close to a pretty formidable looking Aussie team. Can't wait to see some of the best talent in RL on show at OT now, hopefully the final will cap off what's been a good WC tournament.

| The mindset of the players needs looking at. Where did that lack of composure needed to see the game out come from?
It's not like they aren't big game players. The high tackle aside why didn't try stick the defensive game plan they'd stuck to for 79 and a half minutes?
Personally thought the kick was poor on England's last set. Should have gone into touch but we should have still defended it from there.

Absolutely gutted, but what a great game.
I feel sorry for slammin Sam and Graham who both put up world class performances imo.
Yes,Sinfield should have kicked the ball in to touch, schoolboy stuff that and he did miss an easy conversion which would have meant the scores were level, but to lose on the last kick of the match is very hard to take.
Widdop did as well as he could do considering he wasn't 100% match fit.
I do think, though, that put Hock and Brough in that team and we win easily.
Brough up for player of year

Super League Man of Steel Danny Brough is on a three-man short-list for the 2013 international player-of-the-year award.

Great effort by the boys though.

Who said anything about being sacked? He is out of contract now and I can't see it being renewed, unless, of course as before, nobody else wants it.
Do you actually believe that England have improved under his tenure?

| Compared with our performance in the last world cup we have improved under McNamara!
Yesterdays game was great. There was hardly anything between the teams in the end. Not bad versus the World Champions and the most impressive team in the tournament so far.
In the end a couple of mistakes were the difference, but we were the better side for long periods.

| I was so gutted it has taken me until now to log on. The best performance since Melbourne in 92. Burgess absolutely immense. Sinfield's best game for GB/England & unfair to bag him when others made mistakes that led to NZ tries. I wasn't impressed by Edwards' monotone ramblings but still preferable to Davies. How Edwards can witness a game like that & still turn up to coach yawnion defies belief. At least I will be able to go to the final & enjoy it without feeling sick with nerves all week.
I'm not MacNamara's biggest fan but I could have few complaints if they offered him a new contract after that. Not that I expect much competition, especially if it's a full time role.
