strange decision. we're desperately short of props and we let the best homegrown prospect coming through leave.

Thank goodness Franny and Duffy went over to Leeds to learn about negotiating and signing players.

Perhaps we didn't have much choice.

If he's gone there it's because Leeds really wanted him and offered him the cash we couldn't afford / were unwilling to pay.

We'll get a fee no doubt. It will be peanuts, but all adds up.

If its true it might well not be totally in our control, I'm fairly certain we want him to stay, but if other clubs are also interested, including the current super league champions - how far above your original budget do you reach?

Oh and Ladbrokes is our new sponsor too? Think I'll wait till it's confirmed.

The encouraging thing is that FC has said Evans probably wont play every game, and he's looking for a frontline prop. Hope its a good un Franny.

Without knowing all the ins and outs it's difficult to comment but it's disappointing if he has gone, especially given out lack of options up front.

I wouldn't be surprised to see us sign someone like Keith Mason.

Unsure about this. He does have good potential but isn't going to be ready for SL for at least another year. We've obviously offered a contract based on potential but he believes he is worth more. We'll have to see how he develops to see whether this is a good deal or not.

While it's disappointing it shows the position we are in. We can't enter bidding wars with clubs such as Leeds for players who gave never played a game of SL. We can only really do that with players we know are going to make it such as Bateman, O'Brien etc

OK. My son works with a guy who is involved in the Academy set up at Leeds

He told my lad a couple of weeks ago that a) McAvoy was originally wanted by Leeds before he signed for us, b) was still wanted to Leeds and c) was apparently not happy last season at the Bulls i.e lack of first grade opportunity.

I didn't take this all that seriously at the time, but this news puts all this into perspective. I realise you could say I'm making this up (although I hope my posting history on here shows that I don't do that) but I assure you that this was what I've been told.

Assuming its true, then it would seem that Leeds were prepared to offer him a package based on their view of his potential. Equally I assume that FC didn't share that view. Time will tell which was correct....

He must be pretty dumb to leave us now if it's game time he wants. Moving from a club desperate for props, to join another club whos coach seems completely reluctant to alter his starting 17. It makes no sense, he was practically guaranteed some first team action with us.

I agree y leave if you want game time no offence to the lad but he want be getting any this year at Leeds

yes i agree it does seem a shame, hes been at bulls a few year and now when it looks like he could be in 1st team squad he leaves

And yeah, disappointing but considering we've managed to keep hold of Bateman, Elliot, Donno etc then think we can still feel lucky.

Mason or Sidlow? Who would we rather have?

Neither as good as Nas in my opinion.

fair play to liam if hes taken a chance and gone to rhinos, he may suprise a few and take his chance well.

With what we have I think both offer different aspects - sidlow more all action have liked him for a few years and cant understand why he has been out of squad so much, decent hands for a prop,not a bad offload, size and some aggression. Not a world beater but as steady as well get at this stage - Mason a perma tan and a lot of agression,, mongrel in the pack type.
Stats wise one played 16 games and one played 17 - otherwise pretty even sidlow has higher busts, offloads and less penalties whilst about 80 meters more in one game more for mason. When comparing them sidlow (25) has 6 years on mason (31) and has not played in Oz or have a mega ego so would guess sidlow would be cheaper option.
Id take sidlow but realise we do not have a mongrel or enforcer but would prefer to lose this in favour of a more skilled individual been signed.

I'd take Mason...Having lost Hargreaves, Kopout and In particular Elima we really need someone in the pack that can put it about a little.

Know what you mean but mason gives a lot of penalties away. Think I'd prefer sibbit on balance. Not as nasty but solid enough and younger.
