| IF true - sounds like Purtell is going to play centre - Hope the club convince Ainy to stay on - and i think we could do with another winger for backup!

| Presumably we would have to pay off the remainder of their contracts if they were to leave, so this makes no sense to me. We would lose them as backup, yet still have their wages count towards the salary cap. Completely illogical.

| we would also need a backup fb if all of Royston Platt and Sykes left, but them leaving would facilitate that anyway. assuming Kearney is the no 1 FB.

| its called "expectation management" and is sensible from the clubs point of view. they are free to talk to other clubs about a first team position, if they dont get one then they know where they stand not just in the Bulls other teams rating, and it is up to them to do something about it. If they both get other clubs, we get in someone who knows what their place is from the start, utility backup, I would have thought full back and wing and maybe a bit of height as an alternative to Rayner Ainscough Kearney.

| Well, the club may have sat down with both players and explained that they're now both way down the pecking order in terms of playing and if they want to look at getting a new club they can.
I'm not sure, but does a mutual termination agreement mean the club won't have to pay the full money owed but rather just the money given as the pay off to the player?

its a reasonable expectation that two NRL players would be given every chance to make the two centre positions theirs, Platt is officially listed as FB and Kearney would appear to be 1st choice there. So even if the rumour is wrong and they haven't been told, it is still a very strong probability that they are going to have limited chances. If they have been told, then the club is only being fair to them and letting them look for another club if thats what they want to do. Lets face it, we want players that want to play for us.

| It's a bit of a turnaround if Platt has been told this after signing a new 2 year contract with us a mere 3 months ago. Sykes has another 2 years too.
I'm sceptical.

| They have indeed been told..potter said that if players arent putting the effort in then they can go..if they are under contract or not..one player who is currently under contract and not injured isnt gonna play again this year.

| If a player finds another club and leaves of his own accord - no settlement required and salry cap is clear.
Sometimes they find another club on less money, and a deal is done where existing club subsidises or settles the difference - settlement or subsidy counts on cap.
Sometimes its goodnight, Vienna - then all settlement counts on future cap.

| for me I cant see this being true...
As been stated platt only signed a 2 yr deal few months ago and sykes still got two left.
If i had to choose one to keep it would be platt. I think he can make a real good centre once he learns to stay in position in defence. Sykes, well I feel for him as I believe effort is always there but he just makes to many errors both in attack and defence.
There is also the factor that you have to have 8 (i think) home grown players and sykes falls into that of course.
Have to wait and see if this is true but im not sure it is..

Don't have to do no such thing. Platt and Syke will want first team rugby (you would hope so anyway) So they won't want to stay. So they will look for another club and a mutual termination will be agreed. Or they stay and only play when we have an injury crisis.

As I understand it any money paid to them as a payoff is split over remaining years of their contracts and counts towards it. eg sykes has 2 years left we pay him 20k and take a 10k hit on our salary cap for the next two years. You have to spread the hit over the contract length and cant take it all next year. Adey will probably have definitive answer but Im pretty sure thats correct.
Sykes I can understand but Platt seems a bit strange as Potter only re-signed him at easter.
