[iBradford forward Craig Kopczak will miss the start of the new engage Super League season after breaking his leg in his side's 18-16 friendly win over Hull.

The 23-year-old suffered the injury in the 31st minute of the clash at Craven Park and is set for an extended spell on the sidelines, starting with next week's opener against Huddersfield.

"I'm pleased with what we got out of the game but disappointed that Craig Kopczak has broken his leg," said Bulls coach Steve McNamara. "I don't know what happened to him; he lost the ball in the tackle and then suffered the injury. It's very disappointing for us."

Kopczak's team-mate, Stuart Reardon, should be fit for the Huddersfield clash, though, despite suffering a dead leg.

Hull KR coach Justin Morgan was also left to count the cost of the clash, with key forward Ben Galea limping out with a knee injury after just two minutes.

"Ben has suffered medial knee ligament damage," Morgan said. "Obviously we have 10 days until our opening game but you would have to say that he is touch and go for that at the moment."

McNamara echoed Morgan's disappointment over the injuries picked up by both sides, adding: "I don't want to speak for Justin but obviously it is something that we could have both done without. You don't want to be picking up injuries right before the season starts."[/i

Really is a shame as he was playing quality before the injury, hope he heals quickly as he did with his knee.


Reardon will be fit, although it was a vicious tackle on him.

The injury to Koppy is a big blow for next week. I highlighted our lack of size and 'enforcer' type Prop in this years squad as an area we may struggle in against the bigger packs in SL. The Giants have a good pack and we will really need to work hard to get on top of them to lay a platform for Kearney and Orford.

I thought at times tonight our big men struggled to break down some strong Hull KR defence.

Well, I'd assume then that Hall will be full time prop, which should give Whitehead or Donaldson a chance to stake a starting spot, which I think is taking lemons and making lemonade as both these lads are going to be star players

I hope Koppy doesn't suffer any more seroius injuries after this, it could end a promising SL career as it did for Warren Jowitt when he played for the Bulls a few years back!

As has been said elsewhere, with Koppy and Sculthorpe injured Hall moving to prop and whitehead or Donaldson stepping into the starting 13 in the backrow would be the way forward.

I reckon Reardon will be fine for Hud from what I've read, which would be important as we really dont want to be changing the combinations from pre season if we can avoid it.

I tore my ankle ligaments 5 years ago. Went for physio and was told it was the worst ligament damage she had seen. She said it would have been much better if i had broken my ankle as it would have caused less damage. It took two years before it got back to normal.

Bones heal quicker than ligaments i believe.

Realistically, they way his leg was positioned there isn't anything worse than a break that could have happened, hopefully he'll be back sooner rather than later.

Correct, I tore my ankle ligaments when I was 17 and the consultant told me it would have been preferable to break the ankle. He said it was because broken bones can often heal stronger than they were originally, but ligaments, once damaged never return to 100% and can take much longer to return to something like normal. Mine are still a problem occationally a number of years later.

But as I said, in this case. Ebola would be worse, but there's no suggestion he's got that, nor of any ligament injury.

Must admit, my first reaction when I read it was not a break was "oh shît" because to require stretchering off when not a break could well point to serious ligament issues - as people have said.
