If we can win the next two (touch wood) that will leave us in a position where if we can get 3 wins out of Hudds away, catalans home, salford home and Hull away and Warrington lose against Hull KR and Wigan we'd only miss out on the playoffs by a point.

TBH at the moment I don't care about the playoffs, I just want to see us at least win all 3 remaining home games, Quins, Catalan, Salford - no reason we cant aim for this and give some enjoyment and hope for next season to our home support.

I'll worry about the playoff miracle of 2009 at the start of Sept if I need to.

I'd rather it become mathematically impossible with a few matches of the season still remaining so that we would have the opportunity to test out a few younger players.

If we go into the final weekend of the season with the playoffs still being a possibility, and come out of the weekend with a place secured, then those who wished for Macca to drop players may be less sure?

Bear in mind that for the playoffs to remain mathematically possible we effectively have to win every game from now, so if/when we drop one then the situation will likely change significantly?

You may question Macca's judgement but never his guts,

Looking at the fixtures left we will have to win every game.

If we beat Harlequins twice that's them dispatched, if we win our game in hand and beat hull away that's them and the same with our game in hand and Catalans at home.

That;s leaves Warrington in 8th place as realistically we can't catch the teams higher than them.

Warrington have Wigan Away, Wakefield at Home, Hull KR Away and Quins at home. A difficult run in really but Warrington are capable of winning every game in that run in leaving them a maximum of 30.

We can get a maximum of 29.

So a things stand we reallistically need Warrington to lose two matches Bulls to win five. Every game is a play off.

We can get a maximum of 27, not 29 - 15 points now and 12 on offer.

We have to win the lot and wire drop 2 from 4, or win 5 and Wire drop 3 from 4. Then it depends on what Quins Cas and Wakey do, and its is still mathematically possible for us to finish 6th. Equally, if that lot get results in the right combination we could win 6 and still finish 9th. Realistically, we have to win the lot. So its out of our hands - all our lot have to do is go to win every one, and hope the others drop a few in the right combinations. Outside and probably undeserved chance at best. Not impossible but improbable I'd say?

The Catalans are currently five points clear of us (admittedly with one game more played) with a fairly kind looking run in. They play....

Bulls (a)
Wakefield (h)
Saints (a)

Even allowing for unlikely away wins at Bradford

and Saints, I reckon they will win the other three.

Wakefield winning at the weekend leaves three teams on 24 (at the moment) and I doubt we will catch any of them. With Hull being so bad recently the only sides we are really competing with for eighth embarrassingly are the downward spiral quins, Catalans and Wire. Just is not likely, but hardly unsurprising.

Exactly what hope would we have? Hope that we could maybe sneak into the playoffs next season?

If we go into 2010 with the same coaching staff, we can expect more of exactly the same.

I was refering to the home attendances for next year really, and hope of seeing our team win moire than they lose at home - not silverware chances. We have only won 2 at home, 2!

If we end the season with 2 home wins it will not be a surprise to see home attendances fall further and season ticket renewals fall, as a lot of our walk up support seemingly wont just turn up to watch us lose week week out, they need to see wins for the effort and cost of turning up, and with our upcoming 3 home games they are all winnable.

If the home support finish the season seeing 3 wins on the bounce it will leave the average fan feeling a lot better about the club IMO and so will help overall despite what anyone thinks of the coaching setup.

TBH, I don't really think that wins agains Quins, Salford and the Catalans at home at the end of the season are likely to have too many people queueing up to buy season tickets for next season.

Bit concerned at how the 50/50 record only puts you 8th right now. Might be that even if we did win all our games, the teams below us might not win enough games for 27 points to be enough. Well, as concerned as you can be about a scenario that requires us to win as many games in five weeks as we have in the last umpteen.

And perhaps Cas who also lost today. They have Leeds(a), Wigan(h), Harlequins(a) and Celtic(h). Realistically I think we blew our chance of a play off spot months ago though. You can look back at the results against Cas(a), Cas (h), Wakey(a), Celtic(h), Salford(a) where a little more effort and concentration and we would have been well in the places. Truth is we were a shambles for parts of all those games and despite a few poor calls going against us we should still have had enough to win.

I just hope we can win most if not all our remaining games so this year doesn't feel like a complete waste.

First Quins tryon the back of a highly questionable penalty against Newton. Second was a huge gap from Kopczak running out of the line. Semi and Nero looking dangerous. We looked better with Godwin than Newton.
