for me, on sunday Donaldson had a absolute cracking game and if he doesn't start next, there's something not ticking in McManara's head.

Yes. What's the worse that could happen? He has a bad start and we take hime off after 20 minutes, he sits on the bench and gets brought back on later after words of wisdom from a former Loose Forward. No worse than what is happening every week with allegedly better players. Best case scenario is he has a blinder and we win and he is a more experienced player for it.

I dont think it matters too much whether he starts or not. Providing he plays well enough he should get a bit more game time. He probably benefited yesterday from playing either side of half time, he didnt seem to tire as much as Whitehead who was really gasping for air when he came off.

Generally I think far too much is made of whether forwards start or come off the bench.

To be fair to Whitehead, Donaldson did look really super fit. He was up on the defenders like lightening everytime.

My problem is that if they don't start and we play badly McNamarra will then panic and leave them warming the bench. If they start and have a nightmare we can always bring them off like I said in another thread and let Macca weave his magic and bring them back on later giving everybody a good spell on and off the pitch.

Donaldson did really well to tackle the big units aswell. He ran in so hard on Paleaasinas legs that it brought him down.

Also having seen the potential he has in that match (he's only 17) he has to be one of our top prioritys for retention as he's only comtracted till end of 2009.

Yes and that is a tackiing technique that is sadly lacking in a lot of our more experienced players. I noticed quite a few times three of our players all tackling high and unable to complete the tackle before the offload.

Why's that? I'm sure other coaches can see his potential too.

The one time that Paleaasina did any serious damage was one noone took his legs. They bounce off his stomach....sorry chest a few times but didn't stop him. If you take his legs, he can't go anywhere. Why do players insist on going high? I know its to stop the offload, but if it don't stop the man, then whats the point?

Exactly, if you've got 2/3 tacklers then one should be on the legs.

Because he's Macca's big prospect isnt he. He'll stay at the club as long as Macca is here and apparently he only joined because of Macca.

Yeah he does, and I dont doubt Macca has an excellent eye for talent, he can probably nuture it to become quality aswell. But that's probably Macca's best quality.

If we had no injuries would he get a place though?

Probably not given Maccas reluctance to drop his 'star' signings. It's time's when they arn't cutting the mustard to give another person a chance though, something which Mac doesnt do very often.

I'd definitely be giving him a start at loose. Especially if Menzies is still in the centres. We seem to have quite a few back rowers not performing at the moment (Worrincy, Langley & Cook spring to mind) and with Morrison injured, no reason why Donaldson shouldn't get a start.
