[iOne thing the lay off has given me is another chance to see things from off the field. I'd like to get more into coaching when I eventually do finish, I've got my level two badge that gets me in to taking juniors and sitting with Macca and on the side line has offered a slightly different perspective and allowed me to pick up on some different things and ideas. I've been trying to have an input around the guys verbally and offer some help so it has been good in that sense but that's behind me now and I just want to look forward and play.[/i
Interesting. Anyone think Morrison could be the next Bradford coach if McNamara fails to have a good run in the play-offs? Would he be a popular choice? Looks like he doesn't have the full qualifications yet mind.

| There's no danger of McNamara being sacked anyway, judging by the noises from the fans forum last week.
And rightly so as well, the board and Steve himself seem to be laying down some fantastic foundations for the future, I couldn't see him getting sacked this year.

I thought Hood was on record of saying that success this season was a good run in the play-offs, implying there would be changes if this does not happen?
In any case, perhaps any new coach would be best not promoted from within this time - a breath of fresh air and a new perspective is probably needed if Bradford don't make the play-offs.

No, Hood wouldn't be drawn on any likely consequences of us not having "a good run in the playoffs". I guess that's sensible as there could be all sorts of circumstances to take into account.

They'd have to do their badges to get a work permit IIRC.

| jack in the stupid sack the coach talk, or who will be the next coach, i hope they don't sack him, regardless of how we go in the play-offs they will not sack him, it would be pointless. Paul Medley clearly stated what he is trying to achieve and i definately back him.

| Still backing Macca so not in the near future anyway. Morrison would be a good addition to the coaching staff and would do an excellent job of passing his experience onto the youngsters. If he could get them to show half the heart that he does on the pitch that would be a good thing. Maybe when Macca finally does move on, in many years then promotion from within may still be top on the list.

I think you`re right to the extent that a lot of fans DO look at it at this level, ie the first team were rubbish last week so I`m not going this week. Obviously if a certain level of support drifts away (however short sighted the more diehard may regard them to be) then this does cause a very serous problem for the club. After all most fans only watch the first team so they can`t ignore it.
The problem is that you can`t build anything without solid foundations or the whole edifice comes tumbling down which (and I`m trying to read between the lines and might be getting it a bit wrong here) seems to be what Mr Hood thinks has happened to the club a year or so ago when Nobby and the chief exec left, followed fairly quickly by a few of the higher paid players .
I`m not really qualified to judge whether or not the previous management took their eyes off the ball or not, but clearly there is a balance to be struck and it seems the current management feel there is a need to address problems around junior development for example (and I do seem to remember the juniors being made part time a few years ago as a cost cutting exercise) so maybe it did swing a bit too much one way, though I`ll readily admit I wasn`t arguing when we were winning all the trophies.
As for Morro taking over it`s far too early in his career to take on a senior post like that,

Absolutely. The best thing to do when you've spent 2 years building a totally new system to provide a future squad from the club's own system is to get rid of the team which built it and hire someone totally different to start all over again.

But the bloke who's decided to incorporate the systems would be out on his ear, which wouldn't do much for the happiness of people like Paul Medley, and the squad members like Sam Burgess and Andy Lynch who've signed because of whats going on at the place at the moment.
Sacking Macca should be the last thing the club consider at this moment in time. Like Medders said last week, under Noble he was just operating a quick fix at the top and the whole thing collapsed, leaving Macca to take the full force of it.
I'd much rather settle for a couple of years in the lower ebbs for a sustained period at the top (Leeds anyone, with 10 home grown players in their last GF winning squad?)

exactly.
We do not have the money to both spend to capacity on short term fixes and for the long term. Very few clubs do.

| If (and there are a lot of ifs) it was possible, then I wouldn't mind our normal "rolling" career progression from within, it has served us very well. Morrison could be a candidate for one of the secondary coaching posts and from what i've seen and heard of him, he should go well. maybe in years to come Assistant to the Head coach? (a la Noble?)

I'd count 6 Grand finals in 7 years as a sustained period of success.
People are being a bit cheeky to say noble and others were just making quick fixes. Still made good shrewd signings and we went to 5 grand finals in a row.
I get the whole building foundations lark, but no coach should be above being sacked if the first team don't perform to a level expected off them. Not that i expect Mcnarama to be sacked. Hopefully we will have a good second season.

| Morrison is apparently in the process of tying down a 3-year deal with the club. Now that seems a lot to me if it was just for playing. So maybe some coaching element in that too?

I sincerely hope it isn't a 3 year playing deal, the club would be very foolish to do that and in all honesty I can't see it happening.
I would certainly welcome him on to the coaching staff though
