maybe hetherington shouldnt have been so quick accusing bradford of bringing shame on superleague for signing someone who as yet hasnt been found guilty of anything when he's signing someone who's already convicted. people in glass houses and all that. I'd be interested to hear exactly what his driving conviction was for. It would appear though that if we ever get to see Bird in a Bulls shirt he is going to need a completely clear criminal record. If they're denying players for driving convictions alone, it is hard to see them letting Bird in even if the lying to police charge is the only one that sticks.

difference between rhinos situation and ours is bird was a last minute signing that we havent built our pre-season around, eastwood on the other hand was a long term signing that rhinos have planned around and if they had youngsters of the same standard then they wouldnt have signed him in the first place

No, the difference between our situation and yours is our overseas signings are the icing on the cake. The foundation of our team is brought through the ranks. Of course Eastwood is a very good player and it would've been nice to have him but we've got two international 2nd rowers and plenty of depth there. We won't miss a beat.

Not having Eastwood won't drag us down to your level whereas having Bird might've helped you claw back some of the gulf, maybe.

It would not suprise me to find that Eastwoods visa issues were known by Leeds at the same time Bradford announced the Bird signing.
It could explain why Hetherington suddenly had issues with British clubs signing overseas players with legal problems.

Meaning that the overseas signings we've made aren't as vital nor the defining players in our success.

Well, the fact is without Eastwood we've won two out of two. Could you have used Bird today?

Let me illustrate what I meant. Look at Brent Webb. Of course he's a fantastic player and of course he's played a crucial role for us. However, when he goes down with a back injury days before the Grand Final up steps a young lad from our Academy and walks of with the Harry Sunderland Trophy.

Look at Buderus. Of course, he's a great player and of course he will bring something to the team. But if he flops then maybe Matt Diskin will just carry on doing what he's been doing for the last few years, playing a vital role in a championship team.

Clinto Toopi was, overall, a bit of a flop. Did it matter? No, we plugged in Carl Ablett and went and won a grand final anyway. Now we'll just develop Watkins and or Gibson.
