| According to my Aussie brother-in-law the new story over there is that Matt Elliott is lined up to be the new Bulls' coach.
Also that, despite saying he has no job to go to, Nathan Brown is set to take a job at St George Illawarra.

| Always best not to get too sucked in with rumours like these, but I'd be happy with that appointment. And even happier if he brings Michael Jennings with him!

| Matty has never set the NRL alight since he went back, considering the circumstances at Odsal are far different to when he was here I doubt if his style of coaching is what the Bulls need!
I also remember Matty publically apologising to the fans for a poor set of results by the Team in 98, its not as if this a new phenomenon, only newbies and those with deliberate short term memories don't remember this, also we also watched some poor performing Teams under Nobby, but he had the luxury of being able to"buy" the Cups during the "Glory Years" so folk tend not dwell on the crap games during his tenure!

It was never that simple, and I think you are doing Noble a real disservice. Even in those days I'd hazard a guess that the Bulls weren't always the highest paid team in the competition, especially considering Wigan's dispensation etc. The fact is that clubs have tried to "buy" cups for years in British RL and most have failed. You only have to look at Wigan in SL, Warrington (prior to their CC win) and Leeds (the Laughton era plus the Clyde, Mullins and Carroll period in SL). Whilst Bradford have probably spent close to the cap (and sometimes over it ) in the glory years the core of the team has usually been based around picking up "average" players from other clubs (e.g. Forshaw, Lowes, Anderson, McNamara etc) and moulding them into a successful unit with a few higher quality players from Down Under thrown in (plus homegrown players).
So McNamara's recruitment (e.g. Sykes, Sherriffe etc) from previous seasons actually fits into a previously successful formula for Bradford. But it obviously hasn't worked for a number of reasons. I would suggest the following possible explanations:
a) The decline in the club's finances combined with the levelling up of the rest of the competition
b) That the quality of SL has improved to a state in which released players from the likes of Wakefield, Quins and Cas are not going to substantially improve at a different club because coaching and conditioning standards are similar already
c) McNamara doesn't have the coaching ability to make the first team perform [ito more than the sum of its parts[/i (not necessarily a criticism of him because few coaches have this ability anyway)

| Elliott did a great job in getting the club on a sound footing in 95/96. In fact I'd go as far as to say he had a bigger influence than Smith who was more of a figurehead, especially when he was combining the CEO job with head coach.
Elliott brought through the likes of Brian Mac, JP, Fielden, Deacon, Pryce etc. With our current junior set up I can think of far worse people to bring through the youngsters we have now. I'm also struggling to think of many big name signings he made. Apart from Brad Mackay and Henry Paul most of his recruits weren't big names.
Elliott's rebuilt a few clubs down under though not gone onto honours, he managed that over here taking us to the league and the cup.
I can think of plenty of worse choices.

| Oh...my...God.
I'd take Brian Mac from that lot. I'd not touch Millward with a bargepole.
Don't get hung up about where its in, but check [url=http://www.dailystar.co.uk/posts/view/83539/Rad-blast-at-Wigan-social-club-culture=#800000this[/url article out. Near the end. And its coming from a guy who I defy anyone to not have the utmost respect for. Is this the coach we'd want, in a club that has always been strong on the team culture?

| Unconfirmed and unsubstantiated, and even if its true not stated whether or not its a complete list.
Also somewhat at variance with something I in turn was told from a very good source several weeks ago,
Suggest keep powder dry and speculation damped until we know whether we have anything to get excited or angry over?
And, as I said a bit ago, be careful what you wish for.

| If we sign Macca I hope he gets shut of Worrincy and brings Scarsbrook with him.
Get rid of Nero and sign a kid with a bit of pace and promise, like Craig Hall.

Got a proven record of working on a tight budget, not afraid to play youngsters and bring them through, a good motivator of players and a proven Superleague coach.
Got to be realistic about our next coach, unfortunately we don't have bundles of cash to attract a top Aussie coach, and Kear would be a safe appointment.

| Regarding recruitment, any Aussie coach would need to be pretty clued up about the British game as this is where the majority, if not all, of our recruitment will be coming from.
Taken from the squad list the only player out of contract at the end of this year who will count as quota next year (assuming it's true that Nero can get himself counted as non quota) will be Menzies.
Does anyone who's seen him play this year want Menzies to go? I certainly don't.

Ahhh, JP. What a man he was, I remember him when he was winning man of steel and players player of the year etc.
Mind, I'd have him back tomorrow
