Come on now FA. Your ridiculous predictions were a great source of hilarity. According to you we should have been looking down on the Catalans and Saints by now!
'"
No, we should have been in the top 8. That is what I personally said (though my personal view wasn't actually the point of the thread), and that is how it panned out.
What it boils down to is that I did not predict our own miserable run-in, but the issue was
could we make the 8, which is why that was what I called the thread. The answer was
Yes we actually could have, since as I predicted, the teams that we were in competition with took points off each other. Indeed, as things turend out, we SHOULD have. So the point that I was making all those weeks ago has been proved.
In fact, I predicted a top 8 with us in it, and Hull KR in 9th.
In the event, we are not in the top 8, but the other 7 teams I predicted are, and KR is the 8th.
So I got 7 out of the 8 right, and also had HKR in the next spot. I don't think that's too shabby. Sadly the only one I got wrong was us. I say "sadly", but of course I note you find it funny.
But, in what way do you find a correct top 9 teams, and a correct 7 out of 8 in the top eight, ridiculous, or a "great source of hilarity"? You think it's hilarious that we didn't make the 8? I expect in fact you actually do, as the jaundiced way you seem to view the Bulls, it gives you more ammo to have a pop.
I also find it disappointing that you are seeking to deride what was a thread for anyone who wanted to to participate in, not some sort of personal crusade. What happened was that, many weeks from the end of the season, I put my prediction for every league result onto a public spreadsheet. Now, with 1 week of fixtures left, you, who never predicted a single result, are taking the pisz. People can make their own minds up about that behaviour. The point of my thread was so that anyone who wanted to, could do the same, and thus post how THEIR predictions left the final table. Which might (or might not) be substantially different to what they would have said, without doing the prediction exercise.
So it was not "my" spreadsheet. It was a spreadsheet for everyone, who was interested.
I note you weren't.
I did however preface my own predictions by stating that in my opinion we could very well make the 8 given the combination of fixtures that other competing clubs in our part of the table had left, but qualified that by saying it goes without saying that ateotd if we failed to do the business in our key games then we would self-evidently finish lower.
With hindsight, my own predictions correctly predicted 7 out of the top 8.The exception being us, and we don't deserve to be there since THE OTHER RESULTS
DID PAN OUT FOR US, AS I PREDICTED THEY WOULD, it is just that annoyingly
we failed to do the business in our key games ourselves.
I said all along that 26 points would have been enough to get us into the playoffs, but it is now looking like our target might have been 28, if one assumes HKR would have beaten London (now it is a dead rubber so the game will be a totally different event than it would have been if KR needed to win it).
It goes without saying that our daylight robbery by Catalans, which wasn't entirely our fault, coupled with the tragic defeats in should-have-won- games at Wakefield, Castleford and home to London, would have given us the points we needed, even with one game left to play.
What it boils down to is that
we were not good enough to win the last three mentioned fixtures and if you want to ridicule my own forecasts, I did not predict those defeats, but then neither did you.
