Quote ="bewaresheep"I agree to a certain extent... however, as far as I can see things are as bad if not worse this season compared to last! I don't think anyone, even those accepting that it was a transition, expected that!
The problem is that there's no quick way to turn around a club unless you're willing to splash out on new players. You're not only limited to what players are available and willing to come to the club (both taking into account our recent performances on the field and obvious financial constraints compared to wealthier clubs), but also both the players you already have on your books and by the fact that you can only bring in a limited number of none EU players.
Unless you have a crop of youngsters who can step up from acadamy to first team quickly you're probably looking at a 3 or 4 year cycle to gradually improve your playing staff. I think Potter made the right move bringing players in on short contracts who could be replaced if they didn't make the grade as and when better players became available. At least he's then able tohave the flexability to make the changes in the off season.'"
I can see where you're coming from, but there [iare [/istepping stones on the way and jumping from where we are/were (which I agree isn't much of a change) would have looked much different [iIF[/i we'd, say made the playoffs. We're talking, more or less, three or four points difference to where we are, but the one fact of hitting the eighth spot would have been a great boost, even without actually playing any better, and everyone would be posting about signing up for the new pledge (and probably about how were going to the GF next year....) three or four points, that's all. It's just so frustrating.
