I think part of the problem is that you can turn up to watch a very different game if one referee rather than another is in the middle.

My gripe is not that any given referee is inconsistent within their own performance, rather that there seems to be significant difference in interpretation of the rules from one ref to the next, particularly around the ruck, as was shown at MM. As such I would genuinely rather watch Silverwood at the moment than Childs (as an example rather than supporting the comments on this thread) as the former allows a freer flowing game.

Beyond that, refs will always make good and bad decisions and have good games and bad games, just as players will, and that has not and will not change.

Matterson did support some of Agar's claims, but Castleford have not issued an official complaint about JC.

I'm not sure what system is used for clubs to give feedback on referees. Is it just a system of marking a card; 1/10, 9/10 etc, which is similar to what was done in the round ball game, IIRC? Or is it a more detailed report, which is submitted?

Not strictly true. Daniel Anderson - not an inept coach (at least not when at Saints!) - complained about Ian Smith. Ian Smith was not seen at Knowsley Road again until Daniel Anderson had left the country.

Sometimes the complaint is valid, even though the coach making the complaint risks sounding like sour grapes if his team lost in the process. Materson wasn't complimentary about him either on Sky, just more circumspect. Agar is bound to be fined now I should think, unless the RFL has changed the rules since Justin Morgan had a hissy fit.
