Fordy was a decent winger in his time. If I remember rightly (and as usual I`m ready to stand corrected) he came as a makeweight in the deal, which took Ellery Hanley to Central Park.
He was good enough to be selected for the tour to Aussie a season or so later, a tour coached by (again IIRC) Mal Reilly, who was also coach at Leeds. It was probably the most blatant piece of `tapping up` ever but when they got back, the happy smiling Fordy who had gone to the antipodes returned and refused to play for Northern and then demanded a move to the Loiners. All fair and above board, of course..............
