Should the clubs largest shareholder also be allowed to negotiate on behalf of it's star player for said players transfer to the NRL for personal gain?

He hasn't, though. That's the point. He still owns just over a quarter of the shares although no longer a director - he appealed for someone to come forward to buy his holding when he stood down, but seemingly that never happened. But unlike many other club chairmen or former chairmen, he never pumped in money and wrote it off in recent years - only the Tordoffs have done that in recent years according to the accounts. All the directors' loans, including his, were repaid in full out of the Odsal settlement. The interest on those loans was frozen and is still recorded as owing to the directors/shareholders.

And he will only have a conflict of interest if he uses confidential information he gained whilst a director - or major shareholder - in a manner not in the best interests of the club. One has to assume that, as a lawyer, he is very mindful of his responsibilities in this regard.

He has pumped in money! the fact it has been paid back doesn't account for anything, he was there when the club needed a loan.

Past tense. And the fact that it has been repaid in full counts for a lot, I'd say? And care to post on here how much he loaned? And anyway, has no bearing whatsoever on the "conflict of interest" question. The fact that you loaned the club money for a period - and, probably more significantly, gave masses of time for no reward, does not confer any special rights to act in your own interests and against the club.

Not that I am suggesting he is; I very much doubt he is.
