walsh leaving mid season and being replaced by michael dobson...says walsh is joining newcastle knights!...only telling you lot what ive read..

Already discussed on the rumour thread. Saints have already retweeted their denial of it and Brown has said its only come out because we've lost a few.

Denied by Saints (for this season anyway) but I would imagine Walsh would like to play for his home town team if the chance became available.

Dobson cant get a game at Newcastle as they have a quality half back combination of Jarrod Mullen & Tyrone Roberts (described by Andrew Johns as the Knights long term half back solution) as first choice...not sure Newcastle would drop either of those for Walsh and cant see him wanting to head back down under to play 3rd choice like Dobson currently is

And Newcastle are about to have a transfer embargo placed on them ... And if what our chairman says about Penrith still contributing to his salary is true, I'd imagine they wouldn't be eager for him to join a rival after 3 months... But other than that it's solid...

True. They're in a right mess at the mo aren't they? Their owners not paying wages and in a stand off with the NRL.

Luke Walsh will not be making any mid season transfer.

Would it be really such a bad move, Dobson is an excellent Scrum half, he carried the Rovers team for years, he would be even better at Saints with better players and playing behind a better pack.

The best you will get out of Walsh is maybe this season and next, Dobson has been back to the NRL twice and failed to make it, so you could have him for the rest of his career.

If not Hull or Warrington might sign him and you will be on the lookout for a a halfback in a couple fo years.

I get the feeling if we can keep hold of Walsh through this difficult rumour cladded year, and his family settled relatively well, he could see out his career with us. He's on record of saying he loves the style of footie he gets to play for us (exploiting gaps and controlling the team) and he doesn't like the media in aus - both lead to the conclusion I drew. Then, Hewitt should be ready to step up in his place.

Dobson on the other hand is a proven mid table low ambition scrum half, who stopped having an impact on the league some time ago. As a signing it's lacks ambition thought and planning. Given he's a similar age as Walsh, all he would bring is a lack of rumours about him going again. Hardly worth the sacrifice of even a few good years with Walsh.

Walsh is streets ahead of Dobson. Dobson would be a definite step down for us.

Love watching Walsh play. Just wish we had the forwards to enable him to play more.

Absolutely. Dobson is a solid SL level Scrum Half and nothing more.

Luke Walsh is the best Halfback in the league by some distance and we're lucky to have him here.

Locking the thread would be a bit extreme, given the low count on this thread. If it continues to pop up every week then that's another matter, but I think this will drift off of it's own accord.

This Walsh stuff resembles the rumours at the Giants in Brown's second year. We had uncertainty with Brown's future and our star player Brett Hodgson was a source of constant rumours of leaving the club / going back to Oz etc. Plenty of 'denials' and then BH left. (In year 3 Brown started his musical chairs selections).

Not quite what is meant though - this is the same as the Yorkshire journo rehashing it to publish - he's just published the story that's already been denied (twice) just on delay - hence the, it's been published in league week



Also, if there was anything genuine in this rumour, wouldn't he have added the Dobson to saints bit - as it's much more his patch?

Reading his tweets he obviously has many contacts within the game in Australia and a lot of what he says proves to be accurate. Even if true it doesn't mean it will actually happen though.
