Mike Rush and KC may have done some good stuff with the tream this year, but their greatest contribution to the side is bringing back the belief that Saints are never beaten. This has been missing for a couple of years, but these last few weeks have shown tremendous chartacter from the team. Come on you Saints

let's be honest here with the players we have compared to widnes saints shouldn't
be in that position to have to earn a win in the last minutes.
widnes are at the bottom and we are 4th they shouldnt be strugling against teams so low in the league.

I don't think it matters whho you are playing against, the mental strength to come from behind is the same, and becomes ingrained as we play the "better" teams. How many times did we steal a victory against what was a pretty poor Warrington team over the years?

I thought we was rubbish today. Only Perry and sia stood out.

I thought out halfbacks was terrible and we missed lomax big time. Gaskell, shenton and makinson on our right looked very weak in defence.

I wonder if a certain person on here will give makinson the same stick she gives Meli when he makes costly mistakes?

what about last week for example..26 nill up on our own ground and won the game in the last minute again.
but there was no way we should have let rovers come back to take the lead from 26 nill down.....we should be relaxing in the last 10 minutes of the games weve take a big lead in....i know we won in the end but they dont half put your heart in your mouth.

The OP is right you should never right off the Saints. An awesome result for you guys to beat Widnes by one whole & complete point.

This result has put down a marker for Super League teams like Hull KR, Salford, Wakefield & Castleford who will all have to sit up & take note.

A win is a win, it puts us third and performances can be improved, however they do say the sign of a good side is winning even when you are playing poorly.

We looked like a team who was finding a way to lose rather than to get 2 scores in front then pull away. Nightmare from Shenton and Makinson at least 4 tries down that side. Makinson obviously not happy whichever pair of boots he had on with the artificial pitch.
Thought our pack worked there socks off, so did Lance for most of te game. Perry looks very solid in more ways than one, Roby was Roby, anyway 2 points is 2 points better than what wigan managed.

I'm sure you where confident of the win even in the dying minutes.

2 points gained. Doesnt matter if you win by 1 or 100. I for one wasnt pleased with the performance today having said that I thought the forwards where outstanding. There's got to be a major improvement in us before the play offs otherwise it will be over before its started.

I'm happy with the two points but no way am I happy with the performance and at times the attitde was pretty poor.

At times, nobody wanted the ball, roby stood thier for 20m tap and nobody making themselves available for the ball.

We were tosh at various times from 1 to 17 today. Had Widnes not knocked on at the short kick off we wouldn't have won. We got very, very lucky as they scored more tries than us but didn't convert them all. We just happen to have a belter of a goal kicker in Gaskell. Gaskell's the man to thank for that win.

And I don't agree that we haven't had the comeback mentality previously. We came back loads last season. We started last season off with a comeback, or have you forgotten Magic weekend against Wigan? Had Foster had his long range kicking boots on in that match we would have won it, from being I think about 18-0 down at halftime.

Gaskell kicked the winner and kicked all his goals but I was very disappointed in his performance today.

He went missing when we had the ball, threw some awfull passes and looked weak in defence, he missed a simple one on one tackle for a Widnes try.

Our right edge of Gaskell, shenton and makinson looked poor in defence.

I think we were watching a different game! Wilkin was terrible, Roby did fine but the forwards were largely indifferent, with the odd moment of excellence. Not one forward was on Roby's shoulder at any time during that match. The number of breaks he made but he had to go down with the ball as there was nobody there to pass to! And as for Hohaia; he did a fine drop off pass, some terrible kicks and I think his brain works in slow motion.

I hate it when Saints play like that, especially on a lovely, sunny warm day when a ton of Saints fans turn out in support. It gets me very annoyed but I will calm down shortly because at least we won.

Well done that man Gaskell for putting right his own occasional error by kicking a stormer off the touchline.

Pretty much agree, the halves were clueless, and the players looked like they were in holiday mode, thinking that they only needed to throw the ball about and Widnes would crumble.
Widnes didnt crumble they dug deep and played with pride in the shirt. They deserved to Win the game.

Makinson had an horror game, and after that performance i think Saints need to consider taking him out of the firing line, like they did with Foster when he had a shocker. FWIW i though Makinsons performance was worse than Fosters at Bradford.

I think Makinson never recovered from his error after his slip near the touchline. He started off very well but after that his game just got worse and worse. Gaskell only made a couple of defensive misreads but where the heck were the rest of the defenders? Where was Wello? Probably still whinging at the ref and getting us marched back 10.





But at least we got two points. In no way at any time did we deserve the two points but - for a change this season - we got lucky.

I think we need to give some credit to Widnes in making it an uncomfortable match for us. Widnes looked stronger along the back line than us, another 5 mins and i reckon Widnes could have scored again, bet Dennis Betts was pleased with his sides performance.
For saints the win puts us in a great position to push on, win all our home games with the odd away win.

I think it was probably about the same. He started off great. Took a couple of those really brave catches he does, made a couple of great breaks. But I still think it was that touchline error that brought a try for Widnes which seemed to knock him totally off course and he really did have a stinker after that.

Credit can easily be given to Widnes as they were better in all respects than us. But when we should have been good, when we were in attack and close to the line, we didn't know what we were doing. And Wilkin should take a break. He was dire. Really dire.


Yup. We're going to find it tough against the Dragons in two weeks though unless the break is treated like an opportunity to work on our game rather than a holiday. I really hope that only Robes gets a holiday. Everyone else should be on that training field for most of the next two weeks.

I was shocked at how easy makinsons head dropped today, he started off on fire with some great catches and good runs but after his mistakes his head dropped and he stopped looking for the ball.
