Andy Farrell will retire from pro rugby at the end of the season...


....theres me thinking he retired in 2004.

The RFU should sue him under the trade description act for faulty goods. Farrell really did fill his boots, line his pockets and reap it in during his holiday in the Zurich Premiership.

Great player who carried Wigan on his own at times, always felt they were in with a chance in the derby when he played for them, not anymore.

Never quite did it at International level but fully deserving of the chance to screw the RFU of some cash and retire. Hopefully he will be seen back in rugby league in the near future in a coaching capacity.

.......and as a mark of respect theres a statue being errected in St Helens.

Since Farrell left Wigan have gone worse each season.

Yes, quite clearly.

He left at just the right time. Any money he screwed from the RFU, he deserves.
He is one of the few true legends of Rugby League

never liked him.

He was a player I truly hated. He was, as a loose forward, thoroughly in Scully's shadow, yet they bigged him up constantly on Sky to a level way, way above his station. Seeing him try to act like Scully and cover at 6 was laughable.

He then made the step back to prop as his body failed him. It was there that he produced his best rugby for Wigan and I'll admit he carried some shocking Wigan sides in that period.

They then replaced him in spirit with Frodo O'Loughlin!

Apart from his size he really does look like a hobbit.

Saints own coach picked Farrell at loose forward before Scully at rep level.

EVERY England / GB coach picked Farrell ahead of Scully as captain. Only deluded Saints fans believe Scully was a better player.

IMO he's one of the most overrated players to ever play the game.

He was a great leader of Wigan and a fine player. Sadly, Sky made him out to be something he wasnt. He was a fine prop, good loose forward and decent stand off.

And the last British player to win the Golden Boot award as the Worlds best player and was the youngest player EVER to captain his country at Rugby League.

Now that was a farce.

I know both of those.

I think we all know the Golden Boot was a novelty vote for British RL, Farrell was never the best player in the world.

I'd say he deserved to captain GB when he did though early in his career. He shouldn't have captained for so long though when his performances for GB proved that he possibly didn't warrant being picked, let alone captain.

Farrell was a good player. Technically limited, but made up for it with his desire and leadership. Not in Sculthorpes class though

Andy Farrell was a brilliant forward.
I think the mid section of his career suffered from him slimming down, perhaps because he belived his own press and wanted to be a mercurial playmaker, but when he got back to doing his thing, he was great - Big presence and an even bigger heart.

At one point GB had a back row of Sculthorpe, Farrell and Peacock, which was something even the aussies could envy.
