| Quote ="Saddened!"As for the match itself I feel sorry for Jammer, Moore who was outstanding, roby and Wello. Had they all not spent the first half going through the motions those mentioned wouldn't have had to run their blood to water for nothing. Congrats to Catalans who played well and scored one absolutely stunning try.'"
Jammer worked hard but I disagree that Moore, Roby and Wello were outstanding. Wello hasn't been outstanding since Wigan and I didn't notice Roby tonight at all really, except when he seemed to get something in his eye. Moore made some terrible passes and his one and only kick was very poor. I don't normally criticise Moore but while he worked hard, he wasn't outstanding.
My praise goes to Meli and Lomax. The rest should be embarrassed by their performance, which was epitomised to me when they all just stood around and let that Catalans player score his try under the posts when he crossed near the touchline. They couldn't be bothered. I exclude Lee Gaskell from that because I felt sorry for him. To have his debut when our team were malfunctioning in such a big way - regardless of the standard of Catalans play (which was good) - was a really naff thing for him.
And what Potter was thinking of with those interchanges. Bloody hell. They were ludicrous.
I hate it when Saints play like that. We had mostly senior players out there. We have won with fewer senior players - and played well, to boot. The conditions were good for us. But our defence was abysmal, our attack fell apart frequently, we dropped the ball sooo many times I lost count and all but one of Wilkin's kicks were rubbish. Had we had half the academy team out because we were crippled with injuries then I would have applauded their efforts but the truth is we hardly had any inexperienced players out there. Only Lee Gaskell, plus Lomax and Ashurst and they are hardly inexperienced now.
I hope most of the senior players have red faces after that match. While we were clearly missing our only two creative players, that we couldn't even execute basic set plays was nothing to do with the lack of Pryce and Eastmond. It was everything to do with a bad attitude. And I really do hate watching Saints when they are like that.

| I will try to take a couple of positives, well one anyway - Lee Gaskell did well tonight, he didn't hide and tried to do his best. I have to agree with the previous poster re: substitutions why put a winger on the bench? When he came on we were really under pressure & if anything desperately required forward power up the middle. I can't give much credit to the senior players excepting Graham, Moore is a particular problem both in his service from dummy half & his defence, which is fine on the occasional 'big hit' but too often misses. He also struggles to get back in the defensive line too often, leaving an easy target for referees. Interesting even Potter seems to be losing his patience with the way his players are performing, "sometimes the penny has to drop"??

| Dissapointed yes, but this is the type of game you get with Ian Smith. slow play the balls, lying on , forward passes, offside etc. etc. It was always going to be a tricky game with the amount of injuries and lack of playmakers.
Positives from the game, Dean Gaskill did OK, no more injuries, Wilkin rusty but put in a big effort.
If tonights performance came from our 1st 17 I would agree with the above comments, but this was very much a patched up team with no organizers in the side. Tonights 17 not good enough but thats the only squad we have got left at the moment.
3 good tries from Catalans after being "piggy backed" up the field by Ian Smith.

Ok. Of our first 17, who did we have on the field tonight?
Wellens
Gidley
Gardner
Meli
Graham
Roby
Clough
Puletua
Flannery
Wilkin
Fozzard (since we lost Maurie yonks ago and he's been playing quite a bit since then and he isn't exactly a debutant)
Our only totally inexperienced player was Gaskell and I felt sorry for him as it was a bit of a baptism of fire to do your debut but I was glad to see him get a try and he worked hard.
Lomax is a regular, when he is fit, and he played well.
Ashurst has been playing very regularly this season.
Moore has played in every match this season in one position or another either for the full 80 or as an interchange.
In effect, we were missing Cunningham, Pryce and Eastmond. Soliola has been gone for the season so we haven't missed him and Maurie has been gone so long that his absence no longer affects us, with Fozzard as a poor replacement but still a direct replacement.
We missed a creater and organiser. We still had enough experienced players out there to win or at least to be able to pass, catch and tackle, none of which most of those players could do tonight with any reliability. I really don't think injuries could be an excuse tonight. We have played far better with far fewer experienced players in our side. We played far better after we lost three players against Leeds last weekend.

| Fair enough, potter has to take some of the blame but also the players need to take the blame as well.
Tonights team was good enough and should have beat Catalan but potter shouldn't take all the blame. He don't miss the tackles, he don't drop the ball, that is basic skills that these players at times this year can't do!
It's not Potters fault he's got to many players that ain't good enough.
Tactics and game plan shouldn't be needed against bottom of the league.
If potter should be sacked now then a few players should go with him.

Indeed. Potter's bizarre interchanges and screwing up the whole team as opposed to just the halfbacks didn't help but we had enough fire power out there to at least challenge the basement dwellers. However, we were never in that match. What a ridiculous waste of two points.

Potter picked a team that was good enough to beat catalan. Even if they all played where they like and with no game plan we should still beat a poor Catalan side.
The players are as much to blame.

Yes quite a wierd comment:

this makes me smile.....it wasnt that long ago that people were telling us how good our youngsters are.
truth be known...half of them cant tackle...perhaps theyr'e not the world beaters they are made out to be...having said that some of the regular older players are as bad.
the points scored against us against catalan..and the 2 salford games combined 102 (or something like that)..is disgracefull seeing as these 2 teams are at the bottom of the pile..still i suppose potter will have seen the usual positives in the team....trouble is we havent.

Um, which youngsters are you talking about? There was Gaskell, Lomax, Dean and Ashurst out there last night. Unless you include Moore as well. Dean was a turnstile, it has to be said, but Wellens wasn't much better. In fact, none of them was. None of them could tackle last night. Lomax worked hard though.

He's right though. There just wasn't any urgency or energy in the side. Even in the 2nd half when we had the majority of the ball, we didn't play with any real speed. Too many players just didn't turn up to play. It was a really poor performance.

| Can't believe all this slagging off of players and coach as we go through this transition period compounded by one of the worst injuries situations on record.
Can't believe no one has mentioned anything about Ian Smith who always referees us in to this type of non flowing anti rugby game, we only win 1 in 3.
Can't believe people thinking the Catalans should be beaten by any side we put out, bottom of the league, but these past 3 weeks they are playing with form.
Think you should all get over it, we lost, we move on and support the team and hope we get our best 17 ready and in form for the play offs.
