| generally props only come into their peak in their mid twenties, and can play to a good standard into their mid 30's, ala steve price and baloo. Graham and burgess are freaks, but couldeasily burn out like fielden. We shouldn't judge Frodsham for a while yet, IMO

Even farrell moved to prop and had a good couple of seasons there

They are not as good as him at the equivalent age, but that doesnt mean they wont end up as good if not better than him in the longer run.
Burgess was and is a physical freak, who was very big at a young age.
I doubt if he will actually develop physically much more than what we get now.

| Quote ="Blobbynator"How many Sam Burgess' or James Graham's come along though? They're outstanding players and it's difficult to reproduce top quality players in that mould. Leeds haven't produced a top class prop forward and neither have Wigan, yet ourselves and Bradford have. For that we can be grateful.'"
We can be grateful, but self-congratulation should be out of our system by now. It's five, perhaps six years since Graham was touted as a potential GB prop. In that time we haven't produced so much as an effective prop. If we carry on at this rate we'll be waiting another twenty years for Graham's successor. And that's not an acceptable scenario.
To have any chance of mounting a serious title challenge you need a great pack. And prop is the most important position of all. They're the guys you base your pack around. Wigan are the perfect example of a team that over the years has had some pretty decent backs which have never had the platform to realise their potential.
Quote Frodsham is a player who is being touted as a future star, so maybe with time he could develop into a fine forward, we don't know yet.'"
You're right - we don't. And with no word of a replacement for Cayless yet this takes on a slightly worrying significance. Look, I'm not suggesting that every prop or second row we produce should be another Graham or Burgess respectively - but they are the targets we must aim at. Perhaps Dixon & Ashurst will work out - but again, we don't know that. At this moment they're not showing any extraordinary form. Unfortunately we are letting go extraordinary players - Sculthorpe, Gilmour and when you consider his form when he arrived - Cayless. It doesn't take a genius to see a net loss looming.

| I don't see why people have such a downer on Frodsham, he's been solid enough when he's played in the first team and has never let anyone down.

Solid is not a word to describe Frodsham even Sean O'loughlin flopped him at the DJJBWE Stadium
Frodsham in 2-3 years once he's got some meat on his bones and grows a bigger pair of balls might be usefull to Saints

To be fair, he is 19 and O'loughlin is having a very good season. As you say though he needs a couple of years in the gym. Even Jammer wasnt sensational until he was 21, and that was freakishly early for a prop!

| I think frodsham may well be good prop but needs to be brought in slowly and in correct games.
He looks big lad for his age but think he needs to build strengh up.
He got plenty of time yet.

| Without having seen much of Frodsham's junior career I'm kind of wondering whether he's being bounced around because he's too light (which, hopefully, will be corrected by the age of 21) or he RUNS light (which isn't correctable). There's a difference. Look at Karl Pryce - he has the frame of Willie Mason and yet he hits the line like Paul Bishop.

That remains to be seen but IIRC he has been England captain at junior level, so you'd imagine he must have some grit about him.

Yes he did captain England.
I think his confidence was knocked when burgess smashed him with his 1st run and he had to be taken off.
IMO DA should have tried to get him back on pitch and take few drives and do few tackles to get it out of his system soon as poss.
He was left to stew over what was bad debut which prob knocked him more.
If I was in that situation I'd rather just got back on pitch.

| People bagging Frodsham need to take a deep breath and relax. Every time he's played he's looked pretty solid taking the ball up. Trying to work out how he will grow as a player is tricky right now as he's not finished bulking up and growing physically, nor mentally in terms of playing SL.
Give him a few more years and he could be a great prop.

I don't have a problem with Frodsham. But if he's not liable to contribute significantly next season we have to bring a prop in from outside. If we don't we risk being outgunned by some of the bigger packs.

| I'm gonna wait and see what happens regarding the Prop situation. Big Mac hasn't let us down before and I don't see how the club cannot fail to see we're light in that department. With the extra wedge we have available, I would take the signing of one big, nasty prop if it meant bringing Frodsham in full time next season.
If the rumours of Kite are true, that would be a cracking signing.
