Gardner's been a revelation ever since he got the Potter hump (whatever it was) off his back. I'd have happily seen him released at the start of last year as he'd been genuinely gash for 2 entire seasons, but he's well worthy of his spot and even looks dangerous with the ball in his hands too now that he's actually getting the odd pass from the halves.

Lomax had it in the bag after 20 mins for me but Roby justifiably got it in the end. Most satisfying though was a good all round team performance.

Gardener had a solid game last night; something he gets well paid to do. Did he score a hat trick of tries,make any try saving tackles, create any tries?; no he did not. As I said he had good solid game but MOM? never.

Gardner ran his blood to water in the cause, hit the ball up hard all night, tackled like a trojan, was bang on with his positioning and finished his tries superbly. Plenty good enough to make him a MOM contender for me on the night. It's hard to see how much more he could have done to make you happy...

A bit more sprint training would cheer me up a little and more of the same in the future.

Current good form aside - Gardner should have been doing precisely this five years ago. It's what frustrates me about him.

To be fair, he was playing like this last season till his injury. Maybe just a late developer, but he is currently one of the most effective wingers in the league.

Yep, that's right - he isn't the quickest. So let's completely ignore anything good he ever does and just obsess about his lack of pace every game instead, eh? Nothing makes an easy scapegoat identifiable more than a bit of a lack of pace for the kneejerk brigade after all.

Ade's been fantastic since the start of last season. Get over it. Time to find another whipping-boy, folks.

Also lack of pace????? I think he gave up a little early on the Hull break away try probably expecting Shenton had him. Pace is vastly subjective. It's very rare that you see 2 wingers in a footrace.

You've probably got a point actually - he's never going to run the length of the field to score, but then so are comparatively few other wingers in the league these days. The game has changed and the days of the skinny sprinters like Drummond and Preston out wide are long gone and wingers have to be much bigger and more physical now. We're all a bit guilty of measuring him by the Sullivan/Albert yardstick probably, and to your average one-eyed clueless numpty Saints fan that kind of pace is all anybody has to have to be counted as a quality winger and they're automatically disqualified otherwise. I bet Ade would finish in the top 50% of any sprint race amongst all current SL wingers anyway.

Bizarrely League Express had Wilkin as MOM followed by Robes?

I think you are losing the plot Hampton. Who is making Ade a scapegoat/whipping boy?; I praised his performance on Friday but he needs to play like this consistently and who wouldn't like to see an extra yard of pace from him.
