| I've only just come across this SLS on this thread. I have to say she or he is the most objectionable character I have ever come across. She or he doesn't care either. I have tried to be reasonable and was met with sarcastic abuse. Others have tried to reason with her/him to no avail. I think it probably best to call it a day.
Best of luck this season to all the decent Saints fans on here and whilst Saints are always our biggest enemies I would never say I hated anyone or dismiss the entirety of the town in such bigoted fashion.
See you a week on Sunday. Hope it's a decent game.

Oh, come on......
Don't be so ridiculous. I'm a perfectly reasonable fellow with anybody who wishes to discuss the game in a rational manner (and I'm happy to acknowledge that you seem able to do so). Unfortunately, in my experience Wiganers are rarely able to do so. Largely because they attract the glory hunting nut cases who know nothing of the game. Your own board is full of them with crazy statements that imply that there isn't a single weakness in your team. I've already said I could just as easily rip my own team apart but this is a thread about Wigan.
FWIW, I also wish all clubs, Wigan included, the best of luck for the season and may the best side win. I honestly think it's between the two old Lancastrian foes again as I'll never back a side that hasn't been champions since the 50's and I think Leeds' reliance on Peacock and their general weakness in the front row leaves them unlikely to match Saints or Wigan.
Can't get anymore reasonable than that !

Since, as a Christian, I believe in the power of redemption I am going to try to cut you some slack.
So I'll start with offering an apology. I overreacted.
However, whilst I agree with your point about glory hunters, surely the same has happened to Saints. The best team of the previous decade and world champions to boot. You must indeed have your share of glory hunters? And since the two towns share a similar geographical, political and socio-economic past in a very real sense your analysis of Wiganer's is like holding a mirror up to yourself. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Still think you underestimate Wire. Possessors of the best, most innovative coach in Super League who came mighty close last year. Clark and Sims will improve them.
Let peace break out. Haha.

Plenty of glory hunters according to this:

The Super League champions have perhaps unsurprisingly boosted their season ticket sales with the smell of success in the air at Langtree Park and St Helens have sold around 10 per cent more than this time last year, taking their total from just over 7,000 to just under 8,000 and are expecting more sales to come in the next few weeks.

Given that we had 10,000+ season ticket holders last season I don't see how we have sold more ( 8,000 quoted)

| Not quite sure what the OP is on about. Dudson was never going to play games at Wigan this year, even with Flower and Mossop out, i think Wane would have had Greenwood and probably Sutton ahead of him. I really like the look of our props this season, I don't think they're the best in the comp still, but more competitive than last season. If that makes a certain person think that I believe EVERYTHING IS AWESOME, then so be it!
Where do you think your forwards will play this season? Will LMS be in the 2nd row all the time, where will Wilkin play? Who are your back up props, heaven forbid either of our teams suffer another injury crisis this season?

Did we or was that the first year at LP???
I think we sold over 10k for the first year but then after that it dropped off and I'm not sure we published any figures since.

I think it's saying we have sold 8000 so far, compared to 7000 at the same time last year - there's still plenty of time yet to hit the 10k (and I don't know if the figures include the 5 year season ticket etc)

For the record i don't think Matty is just average but you can't say that someone who was voted as one of the best palyers in the nrl is average but also claim Matty smith is awesome!
Wigan fans really are like the the lego men in the movie "everything is awesome!"'"
Masoe is awesome for 5 minutes every third game.
His fitness level is the most awesome I've seen for many a year.
Wigan are a half decent team in an average competition similar to Saints and Wire.
Awesome that.

Our first choice props will be Mose, Amor, walmsley and Lms. We have pleanty of back up at prop in Richards, Thompson, walker, Lms, Vea and Saveilio. We do have numbes at prop but IMO we lack a good quality prop that can put long mins in. Obviously we will have to manage the young lads again but we have the likes of Vea, Lms, Thompson and Saveilio that can play both prop and back row if need be.
The back row we have Vea, Wilkin, Flanaghan greenwood and jones as what would be out and out back rows but we also have Lms, Thompson, Saveilo and wello who can do the the back row pretty good also.
We certainly have the numbers and having players that can switch from prop to back row and vise versa certainly helps but IMO we are missing a good prop that can play mins.
I also think we will miss sia and Manu more than people think

| I would have said that we will miss Manu, but unless my memory is failing me he did have lots of time out last year with injury. So the team has had time to adapt to playing without him and still managed to finish top of the pile come season end.
It will be interesting to see how the pack shapes up given that we are missing one big prop. I would have prefered LMS in the back row. But given the numbers I just can't see it.

On that basis we don't need lomax, Walsh or Wilkin as we done the double without them. Walsh hardly played last year.
Manu was a good solid player. He gives teams problems in attack as he's so hard to put down. He's a dream for robes as he attracts defenders and quick PTB and robes is off down the field. Make no bones about it, we will 100% miss big willie.
I wouldn't have give him two years but with sia going, I'd have done all I could to have kept Manu for one more year.

Whilst that statement is clearly a bit nutty, Hampshire is the most exciting young player in the game from what I've seen. He could be anything.

Agreed. He's got rockets in his boots and the footage of him for England under-whatevers shows him as a half back with some real substance.

| Anyone who was at the Saints v Wigan U19 game Saints last season will testify just what a prospect Hampshire is. I've only been telling you on here and Red Vee for about four years
btw here was the post from that SLS decided to comment on.
His post was more about Hampshire as on old fashioned style of halfback rather than a comparison with Murphy
Quote ="stillinthepast"Grimmy, I have been saying this for the last 12 months whilst others have been going along with Wane and agreeing that by easing Hampshire in at fullback we will have a ready made replacement when Bowen goes.
Hampshire is the most exciting talent at halfback I have seen emerge at Wigan since I started watching Wigan in 1953/54.
Footnote, I say halfback because in the old game I just wonder which position he would have been better at, scrum half of standoff.
Years ago the scrum half was considered to be the creative player (finding gaps and putting supporting through)and the standoff was the one with the pace, the best scrum half I saw at putting players through or making a decision to go himself was Alex Murphy. I am not saying that Hampshire is an Alex Murphy but he shows traits of being able to play either position. The trouble is I am talking about the old days when RL was such a different game.'"
And wasn't it bewareshadows trying to convince you on here Hampshire was heading to Saints? Or was it Magic Superbeetle?

I'll take the credit for that one and to be fair I'd been told it was fairly close to happening. It'll be interesting to see what happens next(?) year when his contract is up - I believe he was offered a contract along with Powell(again ?) in the middle of 2014 but terms were never agreed.
I think he's a terrific talent no doubt, but I also think Wigan seem to be doing their level best to stop him developing for whatever reason. There's a terrific post on the matter on your board (I forget who by) suggesting Wigan are more interested in shoehorning short term solutions than long term outlook (uses Jack Hughes as an example) - I think forcing him into the fullback role, because that worked for Sam, is foolish at best. (Of course I've not seen enough of his defence to know if that's the reasoning but even still you don't have players like that in your team for defence)
