| If you put any of our half's or pretend halfs in that side. Then for me we win. Turner at halfback maybe nessasary, but it breaks up a good wing centre partnership.
I know he is no longer a half, but could swift do a better job? Could anyone do a better job. I'm not talking wonder half, just someone to control the match and make right decisions for our attacking play.
It did not sound like Wheeler had any impact on the game, despite a good pack to play behind.

| Season over, chaps. We'll finish 3rd or 4th (thus robbing me of a chunky winning bet - b*stards) and do little or nothing in the play off.
There's no rugby brain in that team to make us tick. Turner & Biscuit Boy as halves? FFS. Getting turned over by a Dull team going through the motions with nothing to play for is just the start. We could well beat Wakey, but Leeds & Wire will spank us and probably Hudds, too.
Another season ruined by injuries to key players. But then, going into yet another season without two quality half backs is asking for trouble.

| Leeds seem to be struggling over the last month trying to find form, maybe they have one eye on the CC.
We,ve got to thank the Bulls for keeping us in top spot, We might be OK with anther loss as I expect Wigoon and Leeds will lose one as well, as for the play offs it will be too much for us with no playmakers.

The feedback I got was: turner wasn't great, but at least you noticed him, he was trying things that might with a few weeks practice come off. Wheeler could of been off the pitch and you wouldn't have noticed him.
The other massive thing was the lack of a kicking game ... All roads lead to Hewitt...

Hewitt isn't ready. We can't risk ruining a young kids career by throwing him because we haven't got a halfback.
Maybe if we actually signed stand off to play with Walsh we'd still have at least one halfback available. We all knew that if Walsh got hurt we was back to last season all over again.

| Tonight was another embarassment. Did anyone really expect a result tonight? I was cringing when Dave Lyon was choosing our player of the year and suggesting we'd run all over Hull in the second half once their heads went down. Then it sounded like we barely got out of our half in the second 40 and were a comfortable second to a Hull side that was in a terrible run of form.
The fact we're top of the league at this stage of the season is simply ridiculous. How have we done that when we've been terrible for most of the season? I can't see that side winning another game.
Where was McDonnell tonight? I didn't hear his name once, was he not picked? They were going on about how we had little attacking threat, but is it any wonder with Turner and Wheeler in the halves and Wellens at fullback? With those three in the key attacking positions, it's a wonder we scored at all.
They had GOT to do something different, at least attempt to end the season respectably. Bring Swift back in FFS, bring someone in to play 6 and get the pack moving. How can the pack can go from dominating Widnes to being destroyed by Hull FC?

Who knows maybe Brown will roll the dice and see what hewitt can do next week.
Or Swift. We are looking for triangles to fit into circles. But what else can we do.

That's exactly what I saw against Widnes when Walsh went off. Turner was working his balls off to get the game going and Wheeler was doing nothing except pass the ball on.
If Wheeler was the same this week then I'd drop Wheeler, stick Wello in the halves with Turner, hope that Flanagan is fit (he took a bang to the head) as he has shown a bit of attacking flair lately, and put McDonnell at fullback because we are desperate for attacking threats. Based on the radio commentary tonight, I don't care about Swift's defence, we need his kick returns, his pace and his step on the wing. And if Brown shows favouritism for his Yorkshire lad, hardworking though he may be, he should be kicked up the backside.
Quote The other massive thing was the lack of a kicking game ... All roads lead to Hewitt...'"
According to the Wish FM commentator, the more Turner kicked the better he kicked, so maybe all he needs is some practice. Will he get any? Or are Saints going to have loads of time off now that they have a break?

I'm saying, long before a ball was even kicked this year, we was saying we need another halfback and if Walsh gets hurt then we in deep s*it.
Same old story, we ain't got even the two halves that clubs have. If we are being totally honest, we only have Walsh who is a real halfback with a rugby brain.

I cringe at the thought of Wello in the halves but we need some attacking potency. I think we would have gone all night without a third try, although keeping hold of the ball and not giving away penalties might have helped our cause somewhat.

We should just play 5 drives and bomb the hell out of them. It's our only hope. We won't create anything with wello/wheeler/turner in the halves.

| By all accounts we dominated the first quarter of the game, then let Hull crash over from short range for two ties.
After that it was plenty of errors from a team lacking in creativity.
If we lose top spot I don,t think it will be down to this game the loss at Catalan and Hull KR were significant losses.
We still have the destiny in our hands so we don,t surrender as yet not like some of the posters on here.

I think wello is awful in the halves, he looks totally out of his depth and I actually feel embarrassed for him when he's playing there.
However, we need a experienced player who has the bottle to try and dictate things like Wilkin has done in the past. Wello is a player that players look up to which you need in the halves. McDonnell would bring some much needed attack to the back line.
I don't see any other option but to put well other and McDonnell at fullback. We also need swift back in as he is dangerous with the ball.

a) Because Hull are absolutely terrible and hadn't won in 9 games. Without Walsh, that's the level we're at, bottom 4/5 club.
b) No, we have definitely been terrible for most of it. It's perhaps a reflection that the standard this season has hit rock bottom, OR just the fact that the other usual suspects for top spot have been trying to pace themselves. Warrington in particular have definitely been pacing themselves.
c) Why didn't he play? Why? Our attack was as creative as theirs and they've not won in 9 games. What does that say?
d) From the radio commentary it sounded like we struggled to get out of our own half for the final 30 minutes. Hull's pack is awful, so what does that say about ours? Even without Walsh, we should still have been all over them, putting pressure on them and keeping them in their half. Doesn't sound like we managed it?

| First of all, congratulations on winning the Steve Prescott Cup. I know you're aiming for bigger and better trophys this year but I have no doubt both teams and fans wanted their name on it first.
Have to say though, if Wheeler and Turner are going to be getting a run of games together (no sure how long your injured players are out for) then be prepared for worse losses than tonight.
Neither player offered anything, and Turner was, by a long way, the worst player on the pitch.
Lack of halves forced you to play up the middle were Hull were dominant. Put Walsh in that team tonight and you guys would have won. You had plenty of chances just convert them (likewise us).

Wellens will ensure the kid is the one who cracks the whip, is "solid" and is still okay at running moving the ball along the line when not in the 3rd pivot position:
McDonnell
Makinson Turner Percival Swift
Wellens Charnock
Amor Roby Walmsley
Flanaghan Manu

Charnock not ready. Hewitt is not ready. We can't kill kids for the sake of the rest of the season.
I'd go
McDonnell
Makinson
Turner
Percy
Swift
Wheeler
Wello
