| But just because the stadia look the same that does not nessasarily mean that the materials are of the same standard and weight bearing.
My only experience is when we had our loft done. They had options of different RSJ's, they could look identical but bear differing tollerances.
So we may have lower tollerances on our beams as they where planned to carry less weight.

| The south stand is built differently, It has two rows of vertical beams whereas the other stands have one.
It isn't the weight of cladding in itself that is the problem, it is the air pressure in a gale under the roof once the back is filled in. The roof and back design was open to allow wind to blow through thus making equal pressure above and below the roof. Closing the back completely changes that.
In a gale the roof could possibly blow up and out (rather than what you would intuitively imagine, a collapse down) if the back is enclosed.
Having the back open allows much less steel to be used to keep the roof on, thus saving money.
The 'beams' holding the roof on is a cantilever design. This allows unhindered viewing from all seats. The down side of this design is it is a careful balancing act to get the roof to stay up. Unless you put in another row of vertical 'beams' to anchor the cantilever more securely at the back like was done in the South stand. But that is massively more expensive.

Yes I do accept that, but an established stadia building company would advise and I'm sure would have said if you take this option, cladding can't be used! and it will mean weather elements on supporters and the stadium always looking unfinished.

I think that's the basis of the legal stuff going on to see who is liable?

I doubt there is any legal stuff going on. The club tried to cut corners, got burned by a harsh winter last year and are finding it hard finding the motivation to invest in completing the stadium.

| im not having that the stadium cant take the stresses of cladding, nearly all stadia are clad and they dont collapse. Nothing the club have said indicates the stadium cant take it, just it needs paying for

| Bottom line is that they are cheesed off it wasn't included in the original design and they thought it was. The problem is that they want someone else to pay for it because they thought they already had paid for it. Whoever approved the plans on behalf of the club is responsible for this whole damn mess!!!!!!!

| apart from the legal stuff re stabilty/planning & cost could it be clad up to a certain height then have a gap like they have at the K.C. stadium so the winds can blow thro without stressing the fabric of the stadium.B/hell there was a gap at the top of the scaff/pop side at KR & that was built of brick. it would still cost an arm & a leg so i suppose we will wait for the time being till the money becomes available.COYS.

According to the Chairman the money was available at the end of last season. The cladding was supposed to have been done in the off season, as stated by the club in a clearly meaningless statement at the end of last season.

| We have the 'stadium can't hold the weight' argument to the cladding problem, would it be an idea to do a building wrap. This could be sponsored too, or even have a photo of the team or the fans or whatever they would want.

A building wrap is something ive thought of as well. Especially for the East Stand as that is a popular traffic route and so a large advert for that stand could generate some income.
I think at present its the only stand without a sponsor.
When thinking of a wrap i noted that they tend to be used with lots of scaffolding behind them to give rigidity. At saints there would be a large gap between the vertical roof supports so maybe that would cause issues.
I think i posted pics of Leicester Citys ground in the past showing the wraps they have, but if i didnt here are a couple

| Problem is though, that won't prevent the problems that people have complained about: i.e. weather/atmosphere etc.
If they are going to spend money on it, then I'd rather them get it right.
I doubt we will EVER see this happen, though.

As one who used to sit down at KR i dont think there is any problem with the atmosphere at our new ground.
I suspect those who complain are people who stood on the popular side but who now sit in the north or south stands and wonder why it isnt as loud.
They are not comparing like with like however.
The noise generating section is now the West stand, and i can generally hear that at most matches. At Knowsley road i could often only hear away fans from the main stand. Thats not to say that Saints werent making atmosphere, but that what was noisy under the scaff didnt travel much. Instead it tended to reverberate under the low roof and get trapped within.

| The problem with the atmosphere is not the ground. I've heard away fans chant in the East whilst sat on the 20m line towards the West in the North Stand. When the crowd starts to chant it is heard and sounds good.
It's just that the crowd don't do it that often...

I like this idea, it would have the same impact as perforated cladding, and generate more income for the club, at less cost to the club than cladding, I can't see the downside to it

| Anyone forwarded this to the club as a temporary measure????
I'm not saying it's not been thought of, but sometimes the obvious can get missed as not everyone thinks the same way???

| I think last night might have hit home with the club that the cladding needs doing. We shouldn't have to shut any stand.
I seen a lot of arguments last night with fans sitting in season ticket holders seats.

Awesome news. I can imagine the meeting.
"Boss man, the natives are crying out for a half back and a world class one at that".
"What? What's a half back?"
"Erm, I dunno boss man, it's quite important to the team they reckon?"
"You don't think they've spotted that we're waaaaaayyyyyyyy under the salary cap do you?"
"No boss man, they can't do maths, they're all from Parr and Thatto Heath, but they ain't happy"
"Is it that Saddened! again?"
"Yes boss man, he's the ring leader"
"Did he get the gold chair?"
"No boss man"
"What costs the least, a gold chair, one of these half back things or the cladding?"
"The cladding boss man"
"Order some cladding pronto, cheap as possible, buy it from B&Q on a Thursday and take Kel Coslett, you can use his pension book for a discount"
