to be fair I've heard from several people that in person he is quite a character, with a dry sense of humour. However he absolutely hated media work, and always appeared nervous/irritated or just down right moody on TV and the radio.

as for his coaching ability the jury is out for me.

He took Kear's team, improved the defense and the tactics massively, took us on a 13 game winning run and to our first grand final. He is well respected in the game, and the Hull players had a good relationship with him and were sad to see him leave.

then in 2007 he suffered the massive blow of losing Cooke, which obviously wasn't his fault and was very unexpected. Cooke was the chief play-maker and organizer, and we struggled without him. However despite this blow Sharp still steered us to 4th place in 2007.

Sharp's downfall was mainly not replacing Cooke. We first got Matthew Head on loan, who was good but had suffered so many injuries down the years he barely trained. We then signed the even more injury ravaged Adam Dykes and our attacking play never recovered. Also in 2008 we suffered a horrendous injury crisis, and for several weeks struggled to even name a 18 man squad and by the time he got sacked he looked a beaten man.

he was also guilty of filling the squad with utility players (such as wasting a quota spot on Todd Byrne) but he did also bring in Manu, Tickle etc who have been good signings for us.

So as I say the jury's out, as he had a lot of bad luck, and did bring us some sucess...but at the same time he still hasn't proved his is better than being a good assistant coach.

Being a coach means coaching rugby. Surely being a media monkey is secondary.Some like it ,others don`t.Does it matter?

Wouldn't bother me if our new coach did no media work at all, as long as he does the job on the field.

I believe he would, he is a top bloke, speaks his mind hence he was shiit on by our board.

The name being discussed now on the VT is that we / Bradford and Hudds are after/looking at Jason Taylor.

Don't much about taylor but few aussies on VT say he's a good coach and would be best coach in super league if he came over.

That Hull side of 06 were certainly a tough bunch of s to beat.

Get him in Saints. Dident have the best time with Canberra but Meninga oozes respect. Luck at Willies Talau facebook, he only as one picture posing with a Rugby League great and guess who it is ? MAL. With comments from other NRL players saying the guy is a legend.

Can you imagine up and comming centres ? they'd love to be coached by him.

I cant understand why you think you know more than his agent ? Mal isent at another club, therfore it's certainly not a case of bumping up his salary. Saints might have somebody else lined up, who knows. However it's nice to know that a true legend would be interested becoming the coach of one of the worlds leading clubs.
