One of the best derby games - perhaps THE best - was the (2/4-6?) Lancs Cup Final defeat at Knowsley Road. Can't recall a match as intense.

Both of mine involve Jarrod McCracken.

The one were he was elbowed by Skerret and then got up and ran as hard as anything the very next tackle to prove he hadnt been hurt. Skerrett was still walking to the tunnel!

Here was my input.

Boxing Day 1976.
I was playing with a band (group) at that time and we were at Jolly Jacks Bamfurlong that night.
We were supposed to be there at 7:30 to set up and be on stage at 8:30 for the first set.

Wigan who hadn't won at KR for years managed a 14 -12 win, so I went into the Saints club for a celebration drink (as you would)

At 7 o'clock I decided I'd better make a move up to Jolly Jacks, the rest of the band weren't too impressed with my state on arrival. Big grin (P!ssed)
How did we do, all right, it was full of Wiganers who by that time had celebrated just as much as me.

My Saints supporting brother in law (RIP) who was the singer in the band was not impressed.

In similar vein to the times when the Pie Gobblers were the best team and any win was well earned:

Good Friday of (I think) 1990. High scoring victory to us and a Lethal Les Hat Trick.......

If we didn't have to rely on Dwyer to kick the goals we might have won.

The one that always sticks in my mind was the Saints v New Zealand game in the 89/90 season,the score was 27-26 to Saints. If i remember correctly it was on the sunday afternoon and on the previous wednesday night we got absolutly hammered by Oldham(who were in the old 2nd division at the time)36-6 at Saints.

75-0 and 19-0 are my favourites, purely for seeing "Wigan 0" on the scoreboard.

But to be fair to you for a long time you were second best to Pilks Recs who's supporters in the main had the sense to come and support Wigan.

from a wigan fan view worse defeats was the 75-0 and the worse one the 41-6. the good friday of 1990 the 35-10 game wigan played a weak team only needing one win out of the last 2 games, which wigan won with a full strength team against leigh on easter monday

We get nothing your correct, but obviously it is something that still gripes you as it's part of your signature. As for 27-0, its not far off a quarter of a century old, dont you think that it's time that you let it go?

The one that will always stick in everyone's mind is definately the LAST EVER league derby at knowsley road when a table topping Wigan won 18-0. Im not counting the "10" as you had more players than us




On a serious note though il really miss Knowsley road, in a way, more than central park, I couldn't enjoy central park in th way others could because I was only 10 when we left CP in 99. Iv had some of the greatest days out of my life at Knowsley road though, a fantastic atmosphere and a real traditional rugby league ground, absoulutely gutted its going.

On the brightside for you guys, the away end at the new ground will be terracing also.

Impossible to replace the nostalgic Knowsley Road, but I'm sure the developers and club have done their best to make our ground as fan friendly as possible.
