Not the end of the world, espescially if we can shift Soliola into the forwards in dire emergencies.

Assuming we've got some sort of Prop-Plan, then I'm happy enough.

If you take Mac on his word Gilly has been replaced directly by Soliola and Talau by Wheeler.

just because we have space on the salary cap, doesnt mean that :

a) we need to spend the full amount, or
b) we have the money to spend the full amount.

dont forget that the likes of Eastmond, Wheeler, Ashurst, Dixon and Lomax are on new deals - plus Soliola (an international) will be on a decent whack. In the next round of deals, the likes of Clough will be asking for more now they are first team regulars.

I know we don't have to spend all the money or even have it, but we desperately need a prop. That's all I was thinking, I probably should have expanded more into that

The thing is, you can have all the young talent in the world floating around in the backs, but without a solid platform built by the forwards (especially the props) they'll be facing a perpetual uphill struggle.

On the other hand, with a strong pack you don't need much more than a modest set of backs to be very competitive. Especially in SL. Look at Bradford post Newlove.

We defo need 2 props. A world class prop and a prop in the shape of fozz, not great but big hard working and tough.

how is he performing in French RU? when did he last play RL? when was he last 100% fit?

I don't watch rugby union so don't know how he been playing.

What I do know is he world class at rugby league and is still young enough to get back to his best.

If you are happy to go with no pack next year then that's up to you.

Our pack is having trouble now but next year will be worse.

pretty sure SBW would only be able to play for catalans as he has previous and would fall I to the Eastwood Crocker bracket!

Something tells me that with Long, Cayless, Gilmour not here next season, that Cunningham is staying for another year, dont think the club will let all that experience go in one batch.

From what I gather, whether Cunningham will be with us next year is down to Cunningham. He's apparently thinking about an extension at present.

Aye ... all discussions of future recruitment aside ... what a player Gilmour has been for us. Tremendous. I wish him all the best at Hudds and I'm sure he'll do well there. He's still good enough to do a job here but unfortunately the shape of the squad has done for him.

Why is McManus quoting salary cap issues when the deal breaker was Gilly wanted 2 years and was only offered 1 year?

Because the nature of the salary cap means that if Gilly is here somebody else has to make way or vice versa. In two seasons' time we'll probably have a few young players hunting bigger contracts.

Incidentally, I haven't seen any reports stating that he was offered a one year deal - it just says he was unable to secure a new contract at Saints.

I am sure I read one was not offered...
