Seeing as how I'm still banned on the Cherry and $h1Te site (two years and counting), can I come on here and congratulate our 'Inbred, six-fingered, web-footed, backward-walking, banjo-playing, Ellgren-wearing, pie-eating' cousins from over the Lump on the two competition points that they gained today.

On the whole we were far better than wigan but.....its alright saying "we were better, on another day we would have taken our chances and won handsomely etc etc". But whos to say on that day we will take those chances?. End of the day, wigan won. We lost. Thats what makes a champion team. You win whilst being dominated. Mcguire has instilled a steely determination into wigan and thats bad for the rest of the league. On paper Wigan dont look particularly strong at all. Certainly no where near as strong as the teams that have won the grand final since its inception. Man for man their pack is weak as was evident by the yards our pack made at will. But there is no doubting the class of their coaching set up.

Will wigan compete and win the grand final? Who knows? But their fans confidence is extremely justified and I for one would not be surprised if they did.

Wigan weren't dominated today at all, it was a game that could have gone either way, like I said it would be after you said on the Wigan board we'd win at a canter.
Wigan have a decent forward pack, Joel Tomkins has became a good player, O'Loughlin has been fantastic this year, O'Carroll played out his skin today and that's not forgetting that they were missing Coley and Riddell as First choice forwards.
Wigan weren't far off us in the last 2 games last season, and they got the drop on us in this one, at the DW it might be different, who knows? There's certainly not much difference between the teams any more.
As for saying stronger teams have won the Grand Final, Yes maybe they have, but there's also teams that have been at the same standard, or maybe weaker than this Wigan team that have won it as well.

St Helens created about 4 times as many try scoring oppurtunites than WIgan. St Helens dominated wigan but Wigan showed the mark of a champion team by soaking it up, in the same way the St Helens team of a few years ago used to do.

Show me a grand final team that on paper is worse than this wigan team? Thats not a bad reflection on Wigan, but SL as a whole.

Dominated to the extent of being 14-0 at half time? Give me a break! Wigan were better the 1st half, we were better the 2nd half that's the way the game went. We only scored when they were down to 12 men, to say we dominated a game like that is just plain crazy.

As for Grand Final, thats a matter of opinion and something that we could argue about all night. There are certainly many elements of this Wigan team that people would have to admit are stronger than teams that have won the Grand Final!

I said overall. We created chances in the first half, wigan created nothing in the second half. I see nothing at all in the Wigan team of 2010 that any other grand final winning team had in abundance.

Good teams don't wait for luck to strike to win matches. As a Wire fan though I suppose it's hard to break that mindset. I suppose you lot were 'unlucky' when we beat you at your place too? To coin a well-worn phrase; "the harder we work, the luckier we seem to get". Go figure!

Funny that; wasn't the win at the Halliwell Jones our 'Grand Final' too? We seem to be playing a lot of them this season. don't we?

Spot on JLM. I seriously doubt there have been many better wingers (as a pair) than Roberts and Richards, or many better back rows than Mossop, Tomkins, O'Loughlin et al. The thing is, the real strength of this side is how they play as a [uteam[/u. To look at individual players and say "so and so was better than him" is a completely short-sighted way to assess the strength of this squad. I can also say that very few teams have had a better goal line defense (or defense in general for that matter!) than what we have shown in certain games this season. It's a sobering fact that out of the last 9 times our line has been breached, only 3 have resulted in tries. Now that is some goal line defense!
