), Always hated playing against that old Orrell team. I went to school with a few of the lads who played in that team , quite alot of them signed pro - remember Martin Carney? I was sure he'd have made it but I guess it goes to show you just never know.

A story about Terry Newton when he was in the U15/U16 team as told to me by someone from St Judes.

That orrell team was very good. Yes carney and corzy was at Warrington.

I played with Newton and against him. I much prefer playing with him!

He was a top player and hard as nails!

Add another to the list although i was pretty young when i played with St.Judes.

He played at loose-forward for most of the games at Judes and was naturally more developed physically than most of the players around him. He pretty much had his own personal trainer at the time (his uncle i think) who would coach him one to one after training.

I was a little disapointed with the book to be honest.

I tackled Moggy a few times although i could never get him to ground!

No1 saint, I'd say the is a very good chance we've played against each other a good few times.

Played with moggy at for the countie. Thick as fook but good hard lad, I used to sit with him on coach and in changies.

I know Mike Peters (not that well) but he'd gone to Wigan when I got to Hindley (played against him). I had a season in the u18's with Moggy, very nice fella

Corzy I remember too , very tall but there were plenty stories about even back then that he bottled it when he came up against big lads, you never can tell how true they are.

I once had the pleasure of playing fullback against Orrell , I lost count of the amount of times Newton,Corzy,Carney et al came steaming through lol

And Rogues I'm not sure about that story on Newton - he was back then a very tough prop ...

P.S I'm in the middle of Monie's book you reccomended, not bad so far, interesting opinion he has of Shaun Wane

lol He wasnt that tall but he was a tank. He packed in after the 18's and never bothered with Open Age as far as I'm aware

Mike peters was good player, I thought he'd make it.

I got sent off in semi final for 3 high shots in a row, the tackle I walked for was on mike peters, a 8 match ban followed!!!

Quite a few good young players I thought might make it. He wasnt the biggest ;ad but I always had a feeling Newton would make it, I must admit though I thought he would have ended up as a back row (I was shocked when he ended up playing 9)

Hindley, they stuck us in Div 6 to start with so we've spent the majority of the last 2 years racking up cricket scores.

If I can recall he was a loose forward before he went to Warrington with corzy and carney.

I turned Warrington down at same time they signed, I signed for widnes with a few Leigh east and Leigh miners players.

Warrington seemed to be on mission back then, IIRC Wigan suffered through too much success and alot of lads decided to go elsewhere because they thought they'd stand a better chance of making it.. (and I believe Warrington were offering more money

).

Do you remember a prop who used to play for one of the Leigh teams (might have been miners) called Murphy? really good player who I think ended up on Saints books..

Mike Sefton was also there from Leigh and alan Radcliff. The was few more Leigh lads there but can't think of there names.

Warrington was on a mission at that time, my dad said they wasn't right for me so I went widnes, I had talks with saints but they was cheap and Jason Johnson had signed and don't think we could play together.

Sounds like the Murphy I'm thinking of - he was a bit of a 1 man team in his club side , I remember him basically lobbing our hooker at Ashton (Jimmy Hinnegan)into one of the posts with a handoff lol
