Totally agree. I think people struggle with understanding the difference between dirty and clumsy which is odd as it's clear to me e.g. Terry Newton attacking Sean Long was just plain dirty as he intended to hurt him.

As already said, he deserved to go and a suitable ban should be given, but I agree that Meli is not a dirty player and doubt it was malicious, just very sloppy.

I'm no trolling. Maybe it isn't the best plan in the world but my point is that if Meli, or anyone else for that matter, through foul play on an opponent malicious or not, injures himself he may be out of action anyway

e.g. Takes someone high, gets a 3 match ban. Injures himself in the same incident, out for 3 games anyway. That's not a ban, he's out injured through his own folly so in some ways he hasn't served a ban really.

The point about not pulling a jersey on, a knee construction, one of 8 operations on said knee and waiting for the right time in my old age for a knee replacement means that I didn't get the chance to pull the jersey on as many times as I'd have liked/could have. So your comment, pardon the pun, doesn't stand up very well!
