Did you see what happened to Hall's head after Meli hit him? He could easily have died there, the contact was horrendous. It has to be a severe ban, not that it matters as he'll be injured for longer than his ban anyway.

While if indeed Flanagan's injury was caused by a cannonball tackle (Was anything said by Brown/Saints at the time? I don't remember), the tackle was not life threatening. Meli's most definitely was and so Meli should be punished accordingly, even though he didn't do it deliberately. The sport can't be seen to tolerate recklessness when it so clearly puts the life of a player at risk. IMO obviously.

Did you see the tackle? When a head snaps back like that, there is a real risk of a broken neck, and broken necks can result in the recipient being a deceased person.

As for Meli, he deserves his four match ban. Personally, of course, I would have banned him just for being Meli and making that forward pass after other players had worked bloody hard to get out of our ingoal.

Indeed. But this wasn't simply a big impact. It was a direct hit on the neck with force sufficient enough to dislocate Meli's elbow, and if you don't think such force is sufficient to consider it possibly life threatening then that is what is laughable.

Its a physical game, head shots, punch ups, headbutts etc happen every now and then but its all part of the game and players know what to expect.


Even the very basic tackle can cause serious injury. I lost a friend who broke his leg playing rugby and died on the operating table.

Hall didn't change direction or pace at all so Meli had plenty of time to 'Get it right'.
If you can't get you head around that then I thinks it's you who needs some understanding about TGG.

You need to watch it again, as I have just done. He clearly did change direction. And pace. And threw a dummy as well. Add that to the fact that Meli is generally regarded as the thickest player in the world. It wasn't intentional.

It wasn't intentional. Meli isn't that type of player. He caught him high, it was very bad and got sent off, nobody will argue with that.

The rate Hall was travelling combined with a silly clumsy desperate grab made it look spectacular on TV but none of the hype or bullsh*t you or others like SaintFan spout will ever make it a dirty tackle or make Meli a dirty player. He got a ban and deserved it but it really doesnt matter as he is injured anyway.

Hall soon recovered considering he was nearly dead. Looked worse than it actually was IMO but it deserved a lengthy ban. It would be interesting to hear your views had it been Makinson who did it.

It would have been Hall's fault for injuring Makinson.

starting a campaign to stop players running too fast because it's 'pretty dangerous' . shouldn't laugh , if the aussies put in a speed limit we'd probably follow them and take even more excitement out of the game.

How could it be intentional?
Hall made a break downfield and the Saints defence was gone. Meli was the last man facing Hall and the HKR player on the wing outside him.
Everyone, including Meli, thought that Hall was going to pass the ball as the guy on the outside would have had a walk in try.
Instead Hall dummied, Meli probably never anticipated that. I didn't watching the TV.
When Hall got to him Meli was off balance, his feet were in the wrong place and so was his body. Meli was beaten, his arm came out instinctively and clattered Hall with a really bad one. It looked dreadful on the TV replays.
It was a bad tackle, a deserved sending off and a pretty decent ban no doubt.

Meli got it wrong, hopelessly so and will pay for it.
