I would agree with that, yes. Could you suggest it to Brown do you think? ha!

Yes, but Walsh still made the tackles and not all of them were with Wellens' help. I could see THAT much!
Tonight was a team effort; a real gutsy win. I disagree with Judder Man. I have no idea which game he was watching but it definately wasn't the one at Langtree Park!'"
It was very scrappy game with spells of knockathons, yes it was a gutsy win but the game had no intensity. If you are a self confessed "blind as a bat" maybe you have missed the state of play.
At the end of the day its 2 points bit I wouldn,t like to the see Hick the referee every week he was atrocious.

| Well this week has certainly helped our points difference. Started almost 100 apart from Leeds now cut the deficit down to 59.

A year out greenwood is 21 and Thompson 19 - They are definitely the stand outs so far for our youngsters though I'm still hopeful for Richards as well though. Walker needs to step up a bit for me.

| Bad game against a poor Salford team. Eden is awful! Thompson, Wellens and Walsh the standouts for me. LMS was awful first half but came into the game more in the second half. Got caught outwide far too many times though, better teams would have capitalised on that.

I missed nothing of the sort. I didn't say it was classic rugby league. But how you could find such a gutsy win boring I'll never know. We were on one leg and battling against an opposition out to injure us all the time. For the spirit that we displayed when we had a halfback on the wing and a second rower at centre and half the team limping (or so it seemed) it was a good match to watch, not to mention the abuse we could give to Hicks who had a very poor showing.

| I think awful is a tad unfair.
If he was supposed to be our star prop fair enough, but normally he would be playing less than 10 games a season.
Also did he not get knocked out tonight???
I called him the last time he played and then he was the forward with the 2nd best average gain after Mose against Huddersfield.

| I thought that, considering we had only one interchange player for over half the match, it was a real gutsy effort tonight. Plenty of walking wounded as well as those who went off and didn't return. Wello was my man of the match but Walsh is pure class and LMS put a shift in this week. Roby was also up there. Thank god for the week off.

Remember, though, that Cunningham is the forwards coach so he is bound to say they are great isn't he, whether or not they were!
I can't say I disagree with him though on this occasion as the injuries left us with so much work to do yet so few bodies to do it.

| Quote ="The Chair Maker"Those walsh tackles were down to brilliant play by Wellens. He really did position his self well to force the winger to slow down and adjust which allowed Walsh to chase back and effect the tackle.'"
Give over. How brilliant is positioning yourself in the right centre channel when the right winger is breaking on the half way line? It's not rocket science and nothing every other professional fullback wouldn't do. I'll tell you what, Wello's tackling was woeful tonight.
To be fair to him other than that he had a decent game. He runs good lines and against terrible sides like Salford he will still be effective running close to the line off the back of Walsh. He's a clever player and would have been a sensational player if he had any pace. Whilst him playing when Lomax is injured is okay, it's clearly not an option to leave him there, still killing moves tonight jogging onto balls out wide and putting the breaks on the momentum of the move.
Tonight showed just how pathetic Super League is. You could tell from the warm up that neither side was at all bothered about the game and it showed throughout as 34 players went through the motions with no real enthusiasm for the contest anywhere. Salford had no intention of beating us, just slowing everything down and avoiding a hammering. Their holding down, the number of high shots and the niggling was ridiculous. The refereeing was utterly embarassing tonight, he had no control over anything and the whole thing was shambolic. Salford should be ashamed of themselves, we had 1 player on the bench for most of the game and they put us under very little pressure. By the final 20 minutes we had several players on the field who were clearly injured, but they didn't seem to care about that or try to exploit it. At one stage Wheeler could barely walk and was defending alone on the blind side of the scrum. Be clever and run at him? No, go the other way and walk into a tackle one out. The players walked to scrums, had a drink, had a chat. When someone scored they did the same, taking an age to line up again.
The game kicked off at 8. The England game kicked off at 8 and Warrington's game did. England's game was 5 minutes longer due to the sport involved and Warrington's was on Sky with video ref calls. Saints game finished well after both of those games at gone ten to. Had that game been on Sky with video ref replays we'd probably still be there now.
As for how we played, better defensively tonight and ultimately a decent shift from the pack given the lack of a bench due to injuries. Wilkin was having an absolute stinker before he went off, the worst I've ever seen him play, although I found his lack of faith in Wello's pace particularly funny, not trusting him to make it from 20 yards out unopposed. Roby and Walsh were the stand outs for me but there were decent shifts from LMS, Thompson, Sia, Masoe.

I suggest you read Saddened more extensive report instead of trying to wrap the game up as a good one leg performance.

I suggest you actually read my posts before replying to them. Nowhere did I say it was a good performance. I said it was a gutsy one, which it most definitely was, and that I enjoyed it. In my original post I said it was 'awful in terms of skill'. You thought it was boring (with your 'z's). I disagreed with you because I enjoyed it for what it became - a real backs to the wall effort.
The match as a spectacle was awful and just two beauties of tries saved it from being utterly forgetable. We won in spite of all the injuries and disruption, and I think that is worth noting given our meek surrender at Magic and our overall poor showing in terms of guts and grit over the last few weeks.
How many players we will have fit for the Dragons game I've no idea but I'm very relieved we are not in the Cup as we are busted.

I think we will agree that there a certain levels of what is considered satisfactory.
Hopefully we will have Percival, Lomax, Swift and possibly Manu back for the Catalan game. Especially Manu now that we have lost a ball playing forward in the pack.

| With regard to slowing the game down.
I felt that many of our so called knocks by players who stayed on the field were actually "old soldier routine" as it allowed our players to get a break and recover some energy, due to not being able to rotate from the bench.
Looking at the match stats, Greg Richards stands out. I had noticed him making a few nice offloads, reminiscent of a young Jammer, but I didn't notice the work he put in. I was probably too busy noticing Thompson
LMS also came out with a good knock as well.
Richards 20 carries and 114 metres, and 23 tackles
LMS 14 carries 110 metres 29 tackles
Flanagan 15 carries 97 metres 26 tackles
Thompson 16 carries 96 metres 27 tackles
Soliola came out well with 134 metres and 24 tackles. I suspect most of this was before he was moved to centre, after which he had a bit of a mare.
Masoe showed good leg drive and made good yardage when in the tackle but otherwise was very lazy
66 metres from 8 carries, and 19 tackles most of which were third man in flops, isn't good enough.

Wello's wasn't. I saw him twisted in the tackle. Some may have been though but last night given the exits from the pitch and Thompson's bloody nose, I doubt there was much of that going on. Walsh certainly did some time wasting, which was spot on given the inury situation.
I got the impression that Mose wasn't on for very long last night? There seemed to be big gaps where he wasn't on the pitch. Also, an Aussie guy in front of me at the match who has played the game (as opposed to me who hasn't) said that Brown played Mose in a different position this time which he thought resulting in him not being as effective as last weekend. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can comment on that.

Well for a start Masoe wasn't taking it up early in the tackle count eg from kickoffs. Something he did two or three times the week before. LMS and Soliola seemed to be the guys hitting it up early doors. He was only used once close to the Salford try line. Whereas the week before I recall he carried the ball a good few times in the opposition red zone.

| Can anyone explain why we don't move mose out of the pack from a scrum in the opposition 20. Even if you use him as an option runner, there is bound to be some space on the edges.

| I don't think we know what to do with Mose to be honest; though a big part of that is more than likely due to us missing Walmsley and Amor.
