If that report is true we're letting him go for nothing, despite having 12 months on his contract and him being an English international centre AND contributing to his salary for the first year. Say what you want about him not having fulfilled his potential but he is NOT a player we need to cut at all costs, like this report suggests we are. If true, and I stress the if, it seems daft. Especially as it would leave us with only one established centre in the squad again, and that's if Turner signs. I know you lot still believe the myth that is Gary Wheeler, but it's not a good place to be in, given that Wheeler will miss at least half the games next season.

Why not keep Shenton and look to offload Lance Hohaia?

I suggest you watch Carmont in the exiles game or the WCC from last season, you will see a truly world class player. Carmont hasn't played as well this year but last season he was playing at a level that Newlove never reached.

Newlove was always way behind Connolly, he was a decent enough player but not world class.

I don't think anyone has said Carmont was poor, far from it, but a league above Newlove, why not go the whole hog and say he is the best player wigan have ever had. They should stop wheeling out Billy Boston as their banner man every other match and wheel out Carmont instead as he is obviously head and shoulders above the greats.

But he isnt in demand and most clubs dont want him in their squads. The only clubs that have been linked with him are Castleford and possibly Hull KR, hardly the creme de la creme of Super League. You talk as if Leeds, Wigan, Warrington et al are all ling up to sign him, they are not. The fact that Saints want rid says it all about how in demand he is and how he is viewed by a top club.

Who said we want rid? Apparently - and nobody from either club has confirmed this - Shenton has been given permission to talk to other clubs. Assuming that is true, and not just gossip, that could be because he requested permission. He may be unhappy at Saints. Or it may be that being a Dad and trecking in on the M62 almost every day, on his tod, is too much and he prefers to be closer to home. Who knows?

Quite - fact is that we don't know definitively why he wants out, or whether he does actually want out or is being pushed, or what his contract demands are, or what everyone else's salary cap situation is etc. etc. It's all speculation, What isn't speculation is the fact that a pre-Saints form Shenton would be a guaranteed starter at virtually every team in the country (and certainly at Wigan). Maybe he'll never recover that form and maybe a lot of teams don't want to take a risk that he will. As you say, we don't know. But, let's let the clueless numpties make stuff up and fantasize away - it keeps them happy, bless their deluded little minds.
