I just cant help thinking, jees this lad has received some poor advice. Its clear his agent and the union bods have filled his head full of the propaganda and even at 21, he seems young/naive/immature enough to believe everything he's told, purely because they are blowing smoke up his @$$.

The harsh fact is that RU at international level is a bigger sport than RL, its true and no amount of complaining is going to change that, BUT I agree that this interview has shown a level of disrespect to our sport, the club and his fellow players.

I wouldnt boo any Saints player, except maybe Garry Connolly

but he'd expect nothing less.



Seriously, as a club and as fans of Saints, we need to move on and put the Eastmond fiasco behind us. If I were the club and if there is any possibility of doing it without costing us a full seasons wages, I'd release him now. If his head wasn't in the game during the negotiations with Bath, it certainly wont be in the game when he turns out each sunday and he's getting a barrage of abuse from the home fans for how he has represented himself.

Whether he makes it in RU or not is his concern, but if he flops like numerous players before him and he comes back to RL with his begging bowl, I cant ever see him wearing a Saints shirt again, I cant image the current management wanting him back.

If you dont want him in the reserves, stick him in at prop, and lets see the other players give him the same respect he has given them.

I agree with the sentiment of ignoring him. He is simply a player with potential who is way above his station, and will need to improve his attitude if he wants to get anywhere near the England squad in a different code.


I do wonder how 'big' he will think the game of rugby union is if he never makes the England squad - waiting around freezing in the harsh British winter waiting for the umpteenth goal to be kicked, in front of crowds even less than what he is currently playing in front of.

You have to update your opinons of Union. Their domestic league is better attended than Super League.

In terms of home games Saints, because Bath are capped by their ground. But he'll play in front of more people on average in Union I would expect. Most games will be 5 figure crowds.

And despite what he makes out, he isn't even going for the Aviva games. He is going for the European cup and the Internationals.

Baths current home average crowd is 11,555 which is higher than saints have averaged for many many years.

We've topped 11,000 average in 2 of the last 4 years, so I think that's a little disingenuous. It's not as if there are rampantly more fans at Bath than Saints - they are pretty similar.

Come back when we have our new stadium and make the comparison . . . . . I'd imagine Bath will be at least 1,000 on average down on Saints.

As a big massive Saints fan for years I now admit Union is the better game. They have move forwards the last couple of years while SL has gone backwards IMO.

Our game must change soon.

and their biggest crowd (this season but its nearly over) is only 12200, which must be near capacity. Where the old girl regularly got 17500 at capacity, so if its bigger crowds at home games hes going to the wrong place

the last thing he's bothered about is the size of the crowds at Bath FFS ! he's there for the dosh - anything else ie.England glory will be a big bonus along with the image rights etc
There's a lot of money floating around the RU world nowadays and he wants a slice of it,and good luck to him - I wish it was me !

My cousin played at School with Ste Borthwick, who played at Bath for the early part of his career.
He said it was a real goldfish bowl - everyone in the town knew him and was interested in him.

Bath is a RU equivalent of St Helens or Widnes. Small town, one team, one sporting interest.

IMO there'll be a few more making the switch to RU unless the international RL scene really picks up. England are nowhere near Australia/New Zealand but are miles in front of France/Wales/Ireland/Fiji/Samoa/Tonga/PNG. Thus leaving England RL in limbo so to speak.

No-one will care about international RL until the international side starts competing alongside Australia and New Zealand. Then the other nations start competing too.

However, thats a pipe dream, for that to happen would take a decade or more, therefore leaving the RU convert door wide open.
