| Well done from a neutral (Salford): a great game and a really good result. From my perspective it was good to see what I think is a very "smug" Wire setup brought down to Earth.
I think that it is a real irony that for The Wolves that when it has really come down to it that despite having a long history of "big names" playing for them over the years that Ben Westwood has really stepped up to the mark and has been their stand out player for quite some time.
Anyway you lot well done.
JG is awesome: (apart from him gobbing off tonight) and when you think of the impact that Sam and Gareth are having down under it makes you wonder how long it might be before some interest is shown.
This is NOT a troll guys.
All the very best and well done.

By the time they give him a hard time next year he'll be gald to escape down under.
Seriously, great game tonight. The play offs should be fantastic, and I can't pick a winner.

yeah because my 'cred' is dependent on what you think? If fans start spouting about being unlucky I'll give them reasons where they weren't. Quite SIMPLE and no part of what I've written says anything about Saints being anything but a good team, in fact I commented on how much I enjoyed the game and commended both teams on their performances. Get over yourself poppet.

| Marvellous win.
Since nobody else is doing it - I'll give Potter some credit. What he's managed to do this year so far despite out injuries borders on miraculous.
As the season goes on, dumping him for Simmons looks more and more like a gamble. Hopefully those who have been so vociferous in their criticism when we've had a bad week will find the time to give credit where it's due, but I won't hold my breath.

He's certainly done well by us when you consider how different our starting line up looks than the paper one from the beginnning of the year. If you consider the 3 or 4 money balls that Wire put to ground or in touch, it just shows our team works that 1% better, which wins you those tight games. I'm sorry that Potter won't get a chance with the bolstered pack we seem to be assembling for next year.
Take a bow James Roby - this guy is all things to all men. Starting hooker, moves to a running role in the back row and tackles anything that moves. I salute you, sir.
From the youngsters, I thought Ashurst had one of his best games for us and McGennis and Emmitt did themselves justice against the big Wire pack.

I saw that an panicked, knowing the knee problems he's had, but he shook it off. Played well, but Potter's still keeping him on low minutes at the moment.

I am one of few fans who have backed potter in his time at saints, he's done a great job with the lightweight squad and injuries, some said we wouldn't make the play offs this year!
We are fighting for 2nd spot and in semi final of CC cup, couldn't ask for much more, only the pies have scored more points than us this year and we've played some good rugby but also some shocking stuff as well!
However, i think potter going at the end of the year is prob for best parties, i just don't think potter fits in and don't think he feels like he fits in.
Lets hope we can send potter away with a cup so he ain't first saints coach never to win anything in super league era, that ain't a record potter deserves IMO

| I don't see why Potters got all this stick (granted I haven't watched every saints game) but the shear amount of injuries, the key personell that have left you before this season, I think you've done exceedingly well to (probably) get second in the table.
The experience that your youngsters have got for next year, coupled with the planned signings, I feel that Potter should have at least got another year to try and see if his work can come to fruition.

We have played some poor rugby at times under potter, last season the was some shockers, but i think he has done a very very good job this year.
I don't think potter would have signed another deal with saints mate and i don't think we would offer him a deal either, i think both parties was happy to cut ties.
He just don't fit in with saints.
Watched the game back on sky last night, potter looked up for it last night, that was one game he defo didn't want to lose.

That's fair enough I suppose, but I just thing you've gone through a massive transitional stage and still managed to stay around the top of the league.
Compare that to us, where we dropped so far down the table we should have been relegated.
Just thought he deserved another year to try and keep the key men fit, even if it didn't go to plan you could then time a new coach to move into your new stadium (not sure on your new guy either, reading the West tigers forums they sound very glad to be rid)
But, i'm not an expert so i'll trust your judgement!

That makes sense. Hopefully he will be ok because it was one hell of an intense match which will have tested his knees to the limit I should think.

Therein lies a lot of the problem with Saints fans. We still finished second and were very close to winning the Grand Final and yet some were bemoaning the fact that we weren't scoring length of the field tries. Criticism was levelled at Anderson for not giving us freeflowing rugby and then when he leaves that is vocalised further because we weren't top of the league. If we'd finished top of the league last year nobody would have batted an eyelid and any criticism of our play would have just been an extension of something that was present during Anderson's reign.
Despite the fact that Potter pushed us closer to winning a Grand Final against Leeds than Anderson did (we were pretty comprehensively outplayed in his two efforts against Leeds), and we had no right to given some of our playing personnel losses/deteriorations, Saints fans wants wins. Some of they might come on here eulogising some personal ethic about a beautiful game and yet when it comes down to it they're quite happy to shift that over to winning when they've been starved of success. We all want to win and we all want to win well, however most important really is competitiveness and that's one thing that has been in abundance in Potter's sides in these last two years when the competition around us has improved. Who did Anderson have to deal with? A magnificent solo season from Hull which we dominated and then two years with Leeds where we flopped big time when the chips were down. And he had Jamie Lyon. Potter has had half a decent season out of Gidley and then A N Other in the left centre yet we can still perform higher than other teams when we compete.
The longer this season goes on the more the decision to not renew Potter's contract looks to be questionable. If Simmons can tighten up our defence then we can go places providing his offensive coaching isn't as bad as they say it is.

It's great to play free flowing rugby, but much rather win games anyway possible.
I don't think potter wanted to stay mate.

You are assuming that the club didn't offer Potter an extension. Remember, he was quite firm about wanting to go back to Australia. It's quite possible he would have done so had there been a job available.

Whereas for me while of course it is great to win games and win silverware, I would have started watching Warrington if we'd have carried on the way we were going with that bore-a-thon of last season and early this (well, the Hull game anyway). Going to every home match as I do, and as many away matches as I can afford, I want to enjoy my rugby league. I watch Saints because traditionally they play open, expansive, exciting, attacking rugby league and I didn't want to see that snuffed out by the coach.
