How do you reach that conclusion?

Castleford were a team not doing particularly well but for Danny Orr performing outstandingly. We signed him and he was a bit of a disappointment. I was excited about his signing because I expected great things from him, especially after the famous County of Origin series that I'm sure we all remember.

Tomkins has got good/great players around him who are all performing particularly well so far this season. Last season he stood out more because our team didn't gel quite so well around him and he raised his game.

Eastmond currently has that problem, he's standing out whilst you have a few shortcomings. Sure, there's some good/great players at Saints too, but whilst he's raising his game where some areas of your team are letting you down, I wouldn't tag him as a Danny Orr either.

I think you're being a tad harsh on Tomkins with that assessment.

Eastmond would stand out in any team. He's a real talent.

Please don't mistake "great" for "legendary", I distinguish between the two. Saints have a legendary player in Wellens, but he's getting past it, great players are Gidley, Maurie, and probably some more that I can't be bothered to really think about right now. With morons like Don Brennan and SaintsFan around who can't make their minds up whether Eastmond's a great player or crap and can only respond with abuse, making it blindingly obvious to all how little their knowledge of anything is, I'm struggling to find the motivation to really put any effort in. It's a bit like the argument room on Monty Python... "I cam here for a good argument!" "No you didn't, you came here for an argument!"

Eastmond and Tomkins are legends-in-progress. Whether they make it is another matter, but chances are good.

Having just re-read the entire thread, I really don't see where all the vitriol in the direction of Wiganers (and me in particular) has come from. We all agree that Eastmond is a great player, it seems only certain fans (and as you can see above, mainly Codarmysaint) from the Saints contingent insist that Tomkins is nowhere near as good as Eastmond.

Eastmond - so far, no individual honours.

Eastmond, I'm sure, will have set his target at levelling that record this year, if not exceeding it.

this is another pointless debate, wigan would love to have Eastmond, we'd love to have Tompkins. England are lucky to have both.

The simple fact here is - if you cannot take it, don't dish it out.

Right - thread is unlocked, keep on debating the issues.

Why argue who is better?

Like I and a few others said.... saints fans would love to have Tomkins.... we would love to have Eastmond!

Any fans from either side saying otherwise do not have a clue.

Im not just saying this because hes a wigan player, but I genuinely dont buy into the hype about Tomkins. Eastmond can do everything he can, if not better and also has the x factor. The kind that gets you up on the edge of your seat everytime he takes the line on. Tomkins will go onto to have a good SL career, but will never hit the heights that Eastmond will.

Tomkins is ahead right now, but Eastmond is having a great season, and so is Tomkins.

They both have different qualities, Tomkins is a better organiser even with less experience. Eastmond is very explosive and has a better kicking game at the moment. They can both do things that the other cannot. They would be an ideal partnership.

Not buying into the hype is a silly statement really.

I just don't agree with that statement at all.

I personally think both are class, but Eastmond is the most exciting talent I've seen come through in this country for many years.

In terms of his award last year, I think he is. Eastmond has been more improved this year.

I'm sure I said this earlier in the thread but Eastmond played far fewer games than Tomkins last year as Eastmond just filled in for Longy for a few weeks and then Wheeler (as centre, and a fantastic one at that) for the last three matches of the season (including the Grand Final). Eastmond now has his own spot and so, like Tomkins, is playing week-in, week-out. If you really do want to compare the two, this is the season to do it as they are on a level playing field even if they do play different halfback positions.

Eastmond has been playing in the first team alot longer though, since 2008 I think.

I only remember him playing once at first grade prior to last season.

Kyle is also over six months younger than Tomkins.

2 appearances in 2007, 15 in 2008.
