Gutted for Sia, and injury is bad, but knee injuries are sh*t.

Sia will be a loss, however it does give a chance for some of our younger guys to go out and prove themselves.

The suggestion of releasing him from his contract is ridiculous.

1). It would cost Saints an absolute fortune - he has a 3 year contract and won't be on peanuts
2). It sends out a bad message to other potential players if we don't support him
3). It completely contradicts our previous moves, when we HAVE backed players.

Those comparing it to Cayless are naive. Cayless had suffered a number of injuries over a period, he was out of contract, was approaching 30 and wanted to return to Australia. It was a no-brainer.

Martyn, Long, Cunningham and Sculthorpe have been four of our best players over the years and all of them suffered serious, season ending injuries, some on more than one occasion. It's a good job we didn't follow the lead of many and write them off and realease them. I guarantee they'd have come back to haunt us.

I'm pretty deflated by the news. I was looking forward to seeing alot of Sia this year, especially his big defence in the back row. I think he'd have complimented our side nicely and to lose him for the year is a blow. But, he's just 23 so has time on his side. Let's hope he can come back from this. To see roughly 40 minutes of him in the rain is disappointing. It's also another reason why I wouldn't release him, I actually want to see how good he can be for us. Get well soon Sia.

On the bright side, it now means Dean or Wheeler (my preference is Wheeler) will get an extended run in the side. That is massively beneficial for the future. Remember Wellens making the full back position his own after Atcheson's injury? Maybe this is Wheeler / Dean's chance to cement the spot.

I am so glad our fans don't have a say in the running of this club. Some you are absolutely disgusting and you really don't deserve to follow a team like St Helens.

I am fair. He's already had at least one knee reconstruction (unless the RL press lied) and his knee problems have been documented. A recurring injury to an overseas player, who will be costing us a mint no doubt and taking up a valuable quota spot, is a high risk appointment. It's that which is bugging me, not the bloke himself. He can't help having knee issues. And for the record, I hope he gets better soon. What is bugging me is that Saints will have known about his injury problems, and the type of weakness he has had in the past, but took that risk. And now pressure is placed upon our squad that I think was probably avoidable given his previous knee problems.

Injuries can happen at any time to any player. The fact he had a serious knee injury would have weighed on Big Mac's mind, he's not a flipping idiot. Signing Sia could've worked wonderfully; he could have been another cult hero or he could have gone on to win the MOS. As it is, he has suffered a serious injury. Rather than bagging him and blaming him/calling him, why not get behind him, wish him all the best and support the team?

No disrespect or anything, but the backrowers we've had come through recently are Salford auditionees if ever I saw them. The kinds of player who are fine for a year or two whilst cheap but who ultimately won't be kept long term.

Magennis is hyped up but it's unfair to put any pressure on him due to his injury.

I'm absolutely gutted personally and for Sia that he's out for the season. Let's hope he makes a thorough recovery.

They're just my general thoughts on the situation. It's a frustrating one for everyone concerned; the player, the club, the coach, the chairman and to an extent the fans. But we really shouldn't be bagging the lad here. All being well he will be back hungrier than ever to make an impression next season.

If he has ruptured his patella tendon there is a very real possibility that his career is over. Once torn they have a habit of tearing again and again.
