| Let's just say I am 99.99% certain who it will be if it comes off. There'll be the 'put up or shut up' brigade but you either believe me or you don't - that's fine. The main message is that, subject to finances stacking, we are definitely signing someone else. If they don't stack as has been alluded to in other threads ref players leaving, then it won't happen.
And nope - I won't be saying any more. As I said, just look forward to the surprise .

| Six figure sum for lynch, big money for a man of his age, but probably well worth it. Bigger question is why would Bradford sell him? Do they have any ambition at all?

Player power. He's not going to be happy playing out his career there when he's already wasted so much of his career.
Lynch could have been a top level player and should have been a shoe in for England over recent seasons.

Really? A six-figure sum for a 31 year old who you may only get two, possibly three years out of. That's worth it? I wouldn't pay a six-figure sum for Graham at aged 31 never mind a guy who has trundled along for the past five or six years without really being anything other than solid when at his best.

He's the next best thing to Jammer in terms of a like for like replacement. Granted you lose 1,500 metres a season but Lynch is better than the rest.
Hull seem to have ambition again. Half their starting 13 will change, or more. If they have someone willing to put down transfer fees, why not?

| Lynch would have been a good signing 5-6 years ago if not more. He is a little bit static for our style of play but is still a reasonable player.
A bit too old for us but probably what Hull need as their front row is a bit of a joke.

He'll be the best British prop in SL next season, and good props can easily play at 33, and quite often it's their best rugby

| We can't get Griffin either as he's under contract and they want a fee for him. It's the holdup on the announcement of his signing for Leeds according to a few on the Giants board.
We're not going to be paying fees for anyone I don't think.
Best case now is looking like a Championship player being brought in as there simply aren't many SL players available.

I understand all that but not six figures for a 31 year old that isn't Lockyer, Thurston, Slater etc i.e. a game breaker.

New chairman makes a statement of intent, boosts season ticket sales etc but I agree it's still a little much for what is essentially an old prop

| You can read a few thinks out of the Hull move. Firstly they have a new owner and with no debts to service unlike us can splash the cash on transferes.
But also it shows how limited SL is in attracting players. Lynch is good no doubt, but it he a 6 figure transfer good?
Hull have lost fitzgibbon this year and long and gleeson and a few others. Suddenly everyone is looking around for people to buy and the pool is alot smaller than it used to be. In that past they would have gone shopping in Oz but with the federation rules it's no longer that simple.
Like I've been saying for months if you can grow your own you are in a great position. i think we had over half our team on Sunday home grown, Wigan too had a good splash of their own in there.
As players get older it will be the teams with the youth production lines that win out as other teams will not be able to buy in from abroad to cover numerous options , it could be the days of the transfer fee are back in fashion as some clubs will have to buy from others to fill those spots currently taken up by overseas players.
If we have another prop on the cards then all well and good, that for me would balance us out nicely and if we can't get anyone good enough then I agree don't just chuck money about to fill a hole with any old player.
You have to plan years ahead and the next couple of years we are going to need to replace Meli at centre and possibly soliola if he does not resign. Only Sia will free up a foreign spot so we need to develop a centre (makinson) or buy one in as we have a huge depth in backrowers currently.

I think it's worth remembering that a lot of this is down to the new quota system starting to properly take hold. As players with exemptions leave or retire it really reduces the number of options clubs have in terms of going overseas for players (not to mention the relative strength of the Aussie dollar and the new NRL salary cap). This season has been the first in ages in which I can remember the cap being an issue for Saints, for example.
The immediate effect of this is going to be a dip in quality, but ultimately it's what most of us have been crying out for. Clubs are going to have to invest money in their youth systems to keep up to standard.

I totally agree, I keep trying to argue that when people say we need an experienced half, a FB a prop and a 'proper' centre; that what we have is pretty good going forwards for the next few years.
I think now we are starting to see teams scrambling about trying to find guys who they can fit into their squads. And as the NRL money truely hits along with the quota and aging players, we are going to see alot of clubs desperate for half back cover. We have 3 youthful halfs and one experienced guy for the next 3 or 4 years. That's a pretty solid base to start from. Just hope we can tie down Lomax more long term before say wire or wigan come a knocking to replace Briers/hodgson or finch/deacon

However much I'd like to see Lomax play for Wigan there's no way he'd move to us.

If Eric Hughes hadn't thrown his characteristic strop Dannatt would have been an awesome signing.

| We were playing at Oldham one rotten afternoon in Oct 1994 (the game Russell Smith sent both Apollo and Sonny off).Dannatt got subbed half-way through the second half and was not impressed shall we say with Hughes' decision to bring him off.Things deteriorated from there and he left for Hull KR in early 1995.

The hundred grand is down to the press release saying they signed him for a 6 figure sum,it could be a bit more we dont know. What it probably is,is Hull have bought out the remainder of his contract plus a fee.
