Yeah he seems to be a little injury prone which at his age isnt really a good sign.

Well, haven't there been other examples of RL players suffering a lot of injuries when young but as they develop they come through it?

I'd be more concerned if he suffered bad injuries regularly. He seems to suffer little niggles more than anything, which suggests he's not physically matured yet.

He must be made from the same stuff as Lomax, both pick up injuries regularly.

It's becoming a concern for me because he never seems able to last a full match, even Eastmond at his most biscuit boned lasted longer.

However, having said that, he needs the benefit of the doubt. If he's still suffering like this in a few years then it will be a major concern. It's a shame, because the lad is obviously very talented.

Yes there have and I hope he is one of them but injuries even niggles take there toll.

I noticed that too, when he scored that cheeky try from the ball steal. I know those tops are tight fitting (and very nice they are too as a result!), but Wheels is taking it a bit too far!

yep, he and Lomax's injury record is a big concern, as for his so called belly, thats harsh. He's still very young and will probably grow out of it, and its typical of his barrel chested physique IMO

He took a knock at the back of his knee near the lower hamstring, club doctor told him to put an ice pack on it. He was limping later so I guess the knee joint could have seized up........didn,t look all that serious looking across on the bench so he was probably kept off as a precaution.

He's definitely got a 'barrel-chested physique' but he didn't use to have the belly underneath it!

Nick Fozzard was very very injury prone as a young lad but put it behind him and had good run at at warrington and saints.

I think paul anderson was same.

Anderson did have injuries, but I thought it was a few major ones that kept him out a long time rather than a lot of niggles, similar to Frodsham in many ways (and look at how many write Frodsham off already because of his injuries).

He could just be going through a unlucky spell with injuries, it don't mean he will have them all time. He might go next few year without picking any up. It's all down to luck.

Sia seems to be having the same bad luck, he ain't played much rugby for last 18 months but im sure he will bounce back.

True enough, as others have said, a major factor is probably that his body is getting used to the rigours of first team rugby.

If that's the case I'm afraid he wont be a Saints player.

You have a lot of good youngsters at Saints, almost as many as we have at Wigan

and if you can keep them together(and injury free) then your future is bright...one player you have that i really rate but never seems to get the plaudits is Matty Ashurst.

I concur that I don't think the little niggles are anything to worry about at this stage. Maybe if its still going on in a year we should start to worry. His body should toughen up to first team knocks.

Someone mentioned paul anderson, didn't he have an ilness as opposed to an injury when he was younger? I seem to remember him breaking his leg in a tackle from Apollo, but I may be mistaken.

Leave the lad alone. He's just having a bit of bad luck. It can happen to anyone.

As far as injuries go we're often talking about seconds or split-seconds in the decision-making process which are the difference between i.e. being tackled, hitting the earth and then playing the ball or catching your studs in the turf, going over awkwardly and rupturing your cruciate.

The gap between being in the right place at the right time and being in the wrong place at the wrong time is fractional and every second you're on the pitch you're gambling with your health.

Wheeler has had a few rolls of the dice go against him lately. His luck will change. Tommy Martyn went through the same problems earlier in his career and then blossomed when his luck returned.

Moving sports, Steven Gerrard was [iperpetually[/i injured during his early twenties. Never a week went by when he wasn't being treated for something or another. His luck changed - just as Wheeler's (and Lomax's) will.

Gerrard's wasn't anything to do with luck. His groin problems stemmed from his body not being able to cope with his sudden growth spurt as he broke into the Liverpool first team.
