| 44-4, kept them down to one score, put a few points on the board to improve our points difference, 4 wins out of 5....any thoughts?

Wakefield at home can't tell us much. They're the worst team in the league by a country mile, their coach just walked out on them, and they're at our place. It's one of those games where the only acceptable result is a big win.
The real test is Leeds. They're not the same side which won the GF last year, but they're still capable of putting up a decent show for long periods. I think that'll be a better test of where we are. A good win and I think a lot of the criticism off the back of Salford and the Aussies will subside.

| People will point out how bad Wakefield were (and they were bad), but in the first half I thought we were pretty good and played with a bit more freedom. We have much better shape with Wilkin at 13 and Greenwood on the edge. Turner at 6 offers a running threat but he misses things that a real half wouldn't. I'm hoping to see more of Fages soon.
In the second half it turned into a bit of a pre-season friendly.
Shame for Swift - looked like a bad injury.

| Still a few things to moan about, why did LMS have to go centre when Turner could have gone there with Wilkin at stand off. We did play with a lot of freedom in the first half with more passes in the first 10 mins than what we normally do in a whole match, don't know what KC said at half time but we restarted as per the norm barging up the middle. Wakefield were the worse super league team I have seen for many years, we should have put more points on in the second half, Widnes or Warrington would have kept there foot on the gas and got 60 to 70 points.
Leeds next week who are struggling in the halves and the opposition are wrapping up Cuthbertson to stop his offloads, will KC put this in his game plan next week or will he think the way forward is an arm wrestle, we've got 3 important games now which will shape us up for the remaining season.

I didn't go to saints so I watched the Wigan v Leeds game and Leeds were awful. We should beat Leeds as comfortably as Wigan did last night.
The one I am worried about - and always fear if I'm being honest - is Wigan on good Friday. I can't remember the last time we showed up in that fixture. If we beat them in a couple of weeks I think that will really lift the team and the fans.

I don't think I've seen a super league as unfit as Wakey was last night. They all looked fat, slow and unfit.

| Does anybody know what the spat was about with big Alex when he was brought off in the last 15mins, wasn't a happy bunny at all, body language said it all and he looked as though he was giving the verbals when he got to the bench. Could this be the frustration of the players showing through.

| Leeds kept Wigan out for a long time, but Wigan have some good young players who kept at it and broke them, the new Aussie hooker looked he may develop first full match debut after injury in friendly, not convinced it will be a walk over next week!

That was the right decision, in my book. Better to swap your centre than have to reorganise your half back partnership in the first 5 minutes of a game. LMS had a decent game at centre, too.

But JT is playing like a backrow than a 6 tho. He's never a 6 as long as he lives. He just fits into KC philosophy of driving it up.

He's not a real 6, but he does offer a running threat which we desperately lack when we have a Walsh/Burns or Walsh/Wilkin partnership.

He's more of a running threat out wide at centre, I'm assuming KC has him at 6 because of his defensive weakness which doesn't show up as much hiding behind the "middles pack". With both Swift and Percival out for a spell, Turner needs to go back at centre with Wilkin or Fages working alongside Walsh.

He's not making loads of breaks but defenders have to account for him, so it does make a bit more space and time for those around him.

And is that helping us make breaks as I don't see us making many ?
He's a centre and will never make a 6. Sure if we have injuries play him there but we have two stand offs sat in the stand last week not making the 17.

He's a good attacking centre, but my point is that when neither of our halves offer any running threat or even take the line on at all then the team becomes totally easy to defend against. For that reason I think it's worth sacrificing his attacking game at centre for the benefit of the team as a whole.
I'd rather have Fages at 6, too, but if KC isn't going to do that then Turner is the best option IMO.
In any case, I'd be looking to offload Turner at the end of the year and replace him with someone who excels in one position. He's a good centre with the ball in hand but his defence is appalling. As a stand off he's functional but not a lot more than that.

We don't look great at the moment, but I think we looked a lot worse with Burns and Walsh in the halves. It's not just about making breaks but about stopping defences from getting loads of numbers into tackles and stopping us gaining ground. I agree that Turner isn't a stand off, but at least when he plays there the opposition have to consider the possibility that one of our ball players might run the ball.
As I posted above, I'd rather see Fages at 6, but I'd have Turner there before Burns. I don't know how much more of Turner's defence at centre I can handle, either. At least when he's playing 6 he defends one further out.

So far this year we have made 27 clean breaks, putting us currently joint 5th. Interestingly Wigan despite winning a game more are all the way down in 10th.
Inspite of all the issues raised by Saints fans, were also joint 2nd for total tries scored, with only Widnes scoring more (in an extra game).

I'd like to see what they class as clean break as I can't remember to many this year.
Wigan have looked poor this year too.

Vea and Swift are our main contributors to clean breaks, they are the ones doing the tackle busts alongside LMS and Walmsley, anybody else noticed we are using Walmsley a bit different this year we are using him as a decoy more and he has reduced his offloads.

I was assuming that Fages would be used to take up that role.
Stats wise Turner has gone from being one of our best tackle busters and clean breakers to currently being one of the worse. His miss tackle ratio has't changed, the only difference I have noticed is that he is an "extra boot" and an extra "arm wrestler".
As we know Turner is one of our "projects", personally I thought it would be far easier to develop his defensive skills at centre position than to develop his creative, handling, defensive, kicking skills at stand off.

There's not really anything wrong with tackling, though. It's his decision making in defence that's bad - he ball-watches all the time. At least when he's defending one further out he has fewer decisions to make. No coach has been able to sort out his defence yet, so I don't see it happening now.
As mentioned above, he's not going to set the world on fire at 6, but he will make more room for others. I don't think it's a coincidence that we've started scoring tries out side with him at 6.
