From what you say, I have the distinct feeling the full ins and outs of Hohaia's retirement have not seen the light of day yet. The official Saints announcement, especially this "St Helens will make no further comment on this matter." seems a little cool. If it is totally about a concussion injury i do not understand why that would be. There might be a slant on this that nobody has noticed, as recurrent concussion symptoms are temporary, and should have passed in the 6 months, maybe Lance is aggrieved at the after care he has received from his employers, rather than the incidents leading up to it.

Whilst he's suffering still from concussion symptoms, if he should suffer a 2nd concussion during this time, he could suffer a permanent disabling brain injury. He clearly needed time out of the game to recover. He's no doubt weighed this decision up with knowing he'd be retiring soon anyway. It would be foolish to risk his longterm health in the latter stages of his career.

I was told weeks ago that leaving the game was most likely as he's moving to the US with his wife. Whether these symptoms are a part of that remains to be seen.
