| Anyone booing Tomkins can f*ck off to football. We're trying a new concept last night for the first time. We might have relatively new viewers to the sport watching it last night. Their impression of RL fans would be soulless s who stay quiet for 80 minutes and boo their own players, when 99.9% aren't like that and care about the sport passionately. We try to distance ourselves from football fans and say that we have a family game. It was anything but last night.

Perfectly normal - you can admire his talent, his step and his skills, but he's just one of those players you can only really like if he plays for your team.

Completely agree.
I find the attitude of some completely baffling, embarrassing and annoying.
Firstly, I can't stand Sam Tomkins. He epitomises eveything I hate about Wigan - he's sneaky, he's sly, he's a borderline cheat at times, he's extremely passionate about Wigan and is talented. As a Saints fan, there is no reason to like him. BUT, yesterday he was wearing the shirt of MY country. He, along with 17 others was representing MY side and for that he gets my complete support. Can those that boo him not put your hatred for him to one side for 80 minutes and get behind him? Is it really that difficult? It's not about being a hypocrite it's about being sensible and backing the players in MY side. I've never seen Tomkins give anything less than 100% in an England shirt, in good or bad performance, so there is no reason to boo him IMO. Sean Long isn't a particularly llikeable chap, on and off the field, but whilst he was wearing a Saints shirt he got my support because he gave it his all and represented MY side.
The thing is aswell, these people wonder why England are so bloody awful internationally and it's because we don't back our team - from the fans to the RFL. We don't invest enough time in it and the fans don't buy into it yet people wonder why it's so bad. Let's be honest, why would Tomkins want to represent England when he doesn't get backed by the fans? It's not even an isolated incident, it's happened with other players in the past and I imagine it'll happen again in future until people put their petty rivalries to one side for a FEW games. You don't get this in Australia and New Zealand, the governing body and the supporters really get behind their country and invest time and effort into it and get the results. We dont, and we deserve a poor playing nation because we back it poorly.

Newton deserved boing, he had gone out of his way to deliberately injure an opponent, and celebrated when he succeeded. He was a blight on the game, that should never have worn the GB jersey.
Tomkins is in a different league, he may be a cocky little nerk, who tries to cheat a penalty out of opponents, but is nothing compared to Newton.

He also needs to revise the stats for Tomkins - Hodgson apart from goals kicked and try assists Tomkins has played 1 less game and is ahead on almost all stats and some by a wide margin.
For a full back the missed tackles is a a biggy and i was rather shocked to see Sam has got less than Hodgson. As for Roby hes better than Monaghan.

| Tomkins is a very, very good player and put a great performance in last night. He's a player that opposition fans will always hate, but that hate comes from jealousy. Booing him playing for England is just small minded

I wouldn't go that far. That suggests someone actually thought about it - or was even capable of thinking about it and not just following the herd after a skinfull. It was just a bit pathetic and naff really. You'd hope the culprits felt a bit embarrassed in the morning.
That said the reaction from Hemmings etc on Sky sports was ace! Even Peacock's at it today lambasting his own fans for it.
From what I've been told it was about 20 beer boys at it so the public outcry is amazing.

I'm not sure it was. This was posted on the Warrington site by someone who was actually working at the game.
Quote wire_7_aj As somebody who was working at the event I had a free roam tonight and the booing was from Leeds fans in the North Stand and Saints and Wire fans in the South primarily.
Its disgusting to be honest I hate the lad with a passion but he has crossed that line in an ENGLAND shirt and as an ENGLAND fan we should be cheering him on not booing! As soon as the final hooter goes and his shirt is off say what you like about him but while he is on that pitch giving his all for the team get behind him!'"
I do however think the majority were Leeds fans. Maybe the RFL should say we'll play next years gams(s) at another venue (your new ground would be ideal).
I'm sure when Mr. Gary (the gob) Heatherington starts to lose revenue he may take some actions.

| Sam Tomkins is the most exciting player in World Rugby at the moment. Yes, he has his tricks, but referees are not giving him the benefit of the doubt at the moment, so it is costing him. As for being booed at rival club stadiums, thats part of game. But being booed for playing for England, thats not right. The RFL has declared 17,000 (included lots of free tickets), a success; what do they think when Wigan/Saints get nearly 25,000.
As a reward for those so called fans in Leeds, move the next match to an area that appreciates class and their national team. It would also mean that we wouldn't have to pick 2 over the hill Leeds players just to bolster the gates.

Er, I don't think so. There was that young guy in the NSW squad for the Origin match, the one who is a Mormon and going off on mission work for two years. He was more exciting than Tomkins. In fact, a number of players are more exciting than Tomkins. Tomkins is good. But he's not 'the most exciting player in world rugby'!

All of the 34 players involved in State of Origin 2 yesterday, plus many more, are streets ahead of Tomkins in the excitement stakes. As I have said before, with ball in hand, he is a joy to watch.
But he's a cheat.
Nobody likes cheats.
