From what I hear we put up a good show. Allowing HKR to work up a sizeable lead is what killed us. Nothing else. It's disappointing but we were competitive against a good side. Given the steady leaking of talent away from Knowsley Road over the last three years there's an argument that we were playing close to optimum today. And that's ok by me. It would have been far worse had the side rolled over and died as we were prone to do years ago (even under Millward).

My only consolation is I put on a £25 bet last night for the dobbins to make the top 8 this season at 3/1.
I thought they were too good to keep losing but would have prefered it if they had waited until next week to start winning.

The season is going about as I'd expect; we will end up about 4th or 5th and make the semi's but not more than that as (as its been said on this board many times) we are in some sort of re-building phase hampered slightly by the concentration of resources, sorry money, on the new stadium.
As the stadium is absolutely essential, I'm happy to go along with the current state of affairs.

I thought smith was poor all round today. He seemed to give saints some very odd pens to let you lot back into, the back to back sets when you kept getting held up was appalling. Then he seemed to give us everything. Very sporadic and puzzling. Thought you lot showed up well considering your injuries although if we'd kept attacking down our left I think we'd have won a lot easier, god knows why kept going right in the 2 nd half. Dean was having a torrid time.

Todays game has only proven 1 thing. Saints will be up there at the end of the season. no doubts about it. Brilliant performance by the boys. They're really working their socks off for each other this year.

Our backs have been against the wall all season...

Vs Hull = 2 backs taken off inside the first half
Vs Wakefield = Gidley taken off then his replacement Ashurst taken off in the first half.
Vs Hull KR = 2 backs taken off inside the first half.

Nobody in Super League could cope with that imo. The one worrying thing is that these injuries are too frequant. Chris Dean also is not good enough for centre imo. He might gradually make a good second row but no way is he a SL standard centre.

You presume wrongly. Scott Murrell returned at stand off with Ben Fisher playing 60 continuous minutes at hooker.
Each side showed some good and not so good signs but both will finish in the top four.

I think I should point out that over the last ten years or so we have been pretty fortunate with injuries. Yes, there have been some real sickeners (Martyn's knees, Scully's ... well ... everything etc.), but we've managed to avoid the kind of total season-long squad decimation that, say, Hull has suffered in recent years.

It would be pretty bad luck if the season we're banking on youth we get clobbered. But we've had it coming for a bit.

I wouldent say we've always sufferd injuries but to say we've had it coming is a massive overstatement imo. Paul Sculthorpe, Keiron Cunningham, Tommy Martyn, Sean Long, Paul Newlove etc... have all sufferd from very bad injuries. 2005 injuries ended our season.

Who said i was comparing our injuries to yours? Are you really that stupid you cannot read? All i was saying is that we to had to reshuffle our team at half time,and we played the second half without our first or second choice stand off.

You cant include a player who is out of favour. Paul Cooke was not injured.

why???? we didn`t play with our regular stand off or our reserve,for what ever reasons.I am not saying our injuries are worse than yours,god knows i think we`ve got that point,all i was saying is that we had to reshuffle our team when we didn`t have a player in that position on the bench.
