Obviously there is no blanket statement that will be able to describe how a player will adjust. However, I do think that how a player plays in one league will give at least a rough indication of how they will do in another. And since this thread was discussing players like Perry I thought an assessment of his playing ability would be relevant, apparently I was mistaken. But give me time, I'm only new here and I'll eventually learn to toe the party line.



Although its probably clear so far that I don't really rate Perry, he is a surprisingly disciplined player. Particularly in the last two years he has dramatically cut down on the number of errors and penalties he gives away, despite being a real agitator. If he can maintain that level of control and improve his meterage back to what it was a few years ago then next year's forward pack will look very dangerous.

JRD I would like to thank you for your posts on this topic, clearly you're in a better position to pass judgement / give your point of view on Perry than the majority of folks around here.

You can take that approach if you want to, but I never toe the party line, as you would see if you look on other threads. However, if it pleases you to do so then you are free to do so. Alternatively, you could attempt to view things from the perspective of us Saints fans here in little ole blighty. We were looking forward to Perry coming here. Well, I was anyway!

Nope. I don't begrudge anyone telling anyone how they think it is, so long as that someone doesn't mind me doing the same thing back to them! If you want to give it out then you need to be able to receive it.

I know no more about Josh Perry now than I did before I read JRD's post. All I have is someone else's opinion on our signing. It was their first post so I don't have any background opinion to judge whether their opinions are worth noting.

Stats can mean anything you want them to mean. JRD wanted them to mean that we have picked a poor player. I'll wait and see on that one.

I've never been a massive fan of stats. Especially stats for Graham when he plays for 80 mins when compared to props that rotate.

I probably would too. As i said i await the season. It will be exciting to see how certain players develop over the season and having a good friends who is a die hard saints fan. I may get a running report of them.

I would suggest, from the little i've seen of perry and the bits that i've read and stats i've seen, that Perry is goign to be like a good version of Ryan Bailey. He won't be busting down many doors with the ball in hand but will add alot of weight and agression to both defence and attack.

Prop is the only position I tend to take notice of stats for, looking at yards made, offloads etc. What I've tended to notice is that [ino of tackles [/itends to be the best marker for how many minutes a prop is playing.

Its a bit of a myth, Graham doing 80 minutes.

An interesting development - Leeds have just signed Ben Cross, Perry's adversary in two separate punch ups this season.

This should make the Leeds fixture rather spicy for Josh, with Peacock and Cross in their front row. And, let's face it, he's bound to end up scrapping with Ryan Bailey as well.

Leeds are an ageing side, similar to Warrington but have obvious quality. Cross is a good short term signing for them and it's an area they needed some recruitment. If Leeds get a little bit more luck with injury next year, they'll be challenging for top spot again.

I look forward to seeing our pack squaring up with them, especially Perry and Cross.

Have they signed Cross as there isn't any decent 2nd rowers available? Thats the area in which they are lacking imo especially as they are losing Eastwood.

Sounds like Buderus had a big role in their decision to sign him, keeping Danny B happy maybe?

It seems like Danny B is the golden boy at Leeds and Diskin has well and truly been shafted. Considering not too long ago, the Leeds mob were considering Diskin to be a worthy international.
