Actually, I rather like other clubs' fans saying we're in a blip, and will be for at least a decade (or a hundred years, or whatever), just like I rather like it that we are never on Sky at present. It would be very nice if we continued to build on our attack, get our defence sorted out, and quietly blow the lot of them out of the water! No-one would suspect a thing because we're in a blip, our squad is all 90 years old, we're past it and we're never on Sky.

| Quote ="FearTheVee"What blip in our history? Reaching 3 GFs on the trot?
I really do think people should wait until at least half way through the season before saying Saints are even close to a blip. Last time I checked the SL table we were only 2 points behind the unbeatable Wire and Wigan teams despite a pretty shoddy run with injuries.
Come Friday we could be level with the mighty Wire and they could have lost 2 from 3 against the stronger teams in SL (Wigan and us, but beating Hudds).'"
if saints are as good as they have always been, why the potter out threads? Why re-sign fozzard?

Who said we're as good as we always have been?
There's a difference between "a blip in our history" and us not having as good a squad as 2006.
Wigan nearly getting relegated is a blip on their history. Reaching GFs suggests Saints are still in a non-blip phase of our history, wouldn't you say?
I won't give my opinion on the Potter out threads again, because it ends up sounding rude to a section of our supporters. Suffice to say I didn't join in.
We re-signed Fozzard to add another forward body to our squad, which he has done. He doesn't make the squad this weekend because we have other props in better form.

We're not as good as we've always been. However we're alot better than other teams are suggesting. We will finisg top 5 and can beat anybody on our day. We have world class players in Eastmond, Graham, Soliola and Roby. Probably the best scrum half and prop in super league. You must be a good team.
I think rival fans forget that this season we have had nothing but bad luck with injuries. We was dominated against Hull after 2 of our backs (Gardner and Soliola) where taken off inside 20 mins vs Hull, that leaves a massive hole to fill as we had no 'backs' on our bench. We then lost to Hull KR with a massive injury hit squad (6 players and Wellens, Lomax being taken off inside the first 25 mins). My point is that Saints with a fully fit team are capable of winning SL imo.
We signed Fozzard purely on personality mate. We obviously dident have a lot left in the salary cap department so we brought back somebody who just loves boosting morale and for me his doing a pretty good job.
It will be close tommorow but i wouldent write off either team if they lost.

| It all depends where you live, where you come from, where you work, who you knock about with etc. Warrington have always been up there with Wigan for me as Newton has significantly more Warrington fans to share banter with than it does Wigan fans.
How can a man who shows his face at a Rugby League ground once a year, if that, possibly lecture anyone about Rugby League rivalries?
Enjoy Crusaders v Catalans!

| Quote ="magic piano"From a Wire perspective the rivallry is based almost entirely on jealousy. Just as Saints had this chip on their shoulders (as did we) with regard to Wigan during the pre-SL era based on jealousy of a truly dominant club, so do Wire fans look on the trophy cabinet of Saints since 96 with extremely green eyes. We aim to pitch ourselves against the best, and against the best of the SL era we have a half decent record, indeed of the 4 teams to have won the SL title we are comfortable with facing 3 at home or away. And then you get to Saints who have had the Indian Sign over us since thos terrible (for us) 2 nights in the early 90's when you put 140+ on us for very little reply within a week. We were there when you won SL1 on the end of a thumping and ever since that sunny day we have wanted some of the cake. Sadly a series of inept people at the club have left us without even a bridesmaid tag to hang onto, until our special day at Wembley last year which many people in Warrington [size=150quietly[/size hope was a catalyst not a one-off. Now there is a genuine belief borne out by early season form & performances that Wire are on the verge of something that will make us true contenders, not just the ones with biggest mouths & wallets. Wire fans barely dare hope that we are on the verge of doing a Leeds & building success not trying to buy it as we have in previous years - our mix of homegrown & paid for talent is more even than ever.
Friday is our big test - to be considered the real deal we have to prove ourselves against our Nemesis. How many times have we said "now is the time to beat Saints"? Maybe now is our time, but for the first time in SL history I travel to Knowsley Road tomorrow expecting an even battle between two pretty much full strength sides, not hoping for a miracle & that is where this year may, just may, be different...'"

I have to admit - I hear a lot on these forums about how Warrington fans are big headed, that we say it's going to be our year every year... In fact, I read it so often that I actually kind of believe it to an extent.
The problem is, I don't actually know any of these Warrington fans (maybe I only hang around with the cynical old gits who have been watching far too long to hope for success?), and I clearly don't read other clubs' forums often enough to see for myself this army of Warrington fans telling the world how great we are... All I see actually are the odd clearly bat5hit crazy, over-excitable teenager post something along the lines of "wolves r guna smash yoos l0l!!!!!11111"
As for tonight - I'm hoping, desperately I'll admit, for a win .... but I'm expecting a close game, with a last minute try from Eastmond to rob us of victory once more.

spot-on.
I think some Saints fans actually invent 'phantom cocky wire fans' ...just to justify coming on our board after the match to say 'ha ha beat you again you bellends'..truth is the majority of Warrington fans go into the games against saints with the realistic view that to win is going to be a massive effort and unlikey.

Don't get me wrong - every club has its fair share of s and a majority of decent fans - you and us alike.
However, being a Saints fan living in Warrington, the amount of noise along the lines of "We are now the best team in the league" from some Wire fans of long standing (as well as those who don't even know where the HJ is, never mind Wilderspool) is amazing......the latest barrage of such nonsense being spouted at me last night.
Yes, Warrington are miles better than they were; yes, you have got a decent set up managerially (not just Smith, but the other guy from Leeds as well who is responsible for the young lads but whose name escapes me) yes you have made some excellent signings instead of the 75% turnover in playing roster you used to see in the off season from Wire, most of whom were useless..........etc etc.
However, being silent about it isn't my experience of Wire fans at the moment.
Let's just hope we have a good game tonight - as exciting as the Wire v Wigan game.........and with the same (and usual!) result - a Wire loss
